So the wife dropped her BB 8900 and the screen went white.
The phone works to dial out (although you can't see who you're calling) and receives calls.

What are the chances that it needs a new screen?

I should have mentioned I pulled the battery 3 times and the same white screen.

No codes on the screen, its just white.

If there is a micro SD card installed, remove it and try the battery pull again.

You need to replace the screen mreda, i can guarantee that is the answer to your problem, seen it many times on other phones which have been dropped.

Before replace the screen, mreda, you need to confirm whether the screen is damaged. Maybe there is just something wrong with your phone connection. You can tear down the phone and then reassemble the phone.
Suggest a take apart video for you. It can hepl you tear down and reassemble the phone. If you still don't know how to assemble the phone, search in youtube.
