7250 Screen

Is there any way to 'manually' turn off the screen on the 7250? I know that when it's in the cradle the screen turns off, thus conserving battery life. The thing is, I hate carrying this thing on my belt - too geeky! Can I just turn the screen off and put it in my pocket!?

Unfortunately not.
The screen without backlight uses precious little battery power anyway...

You by any chance have any statistics? I'm interested, I wouldn't have thought that to be the case. Carrying the device without my holster may be an option, I'm going to have to give it a try.

I don't have any hard numbers, but I've not noticed much of a difference between using my case (which turns the screen off), and having the blackberry by itself on my desk all day.
Given the draw of a typical LCD of this size is in the low micro amps, I doubt it has a huge impact on battery life. The radio, backlight and processor will be a much bigger draw on power. Having said that, using the auto on/off feature overnight would greatly increase battery life...

Thanks all. I'm just going to carry it around out of the case and see what happens with the battery life. I just figured if there was an easy way to do it ..... you know?!

Very interesting, great to know. I do use the auto on/off feature already, but I think I'm going to try to carry it without the holster and see what happens. Any ideas on the 7250 how to lock the keypad? Believe it or not I have never done it, guess I never had a reason.
Thanks again.

Nope, sorry. Figured it out. That's worse than not searching a thread before posting a question....

There is no "keypad" lock...however there is an electronic lock that requires a password to open. This can be established in options, security.

Actually, my VZW 7250 does have a 'keyboard lock' feature activated by an icon on the home screen. It doesn't require any kind of password to unlock. When the trackwheel is spun, you get the option to 'unlock', 'make an emergency call', or 'cancel'. And there is no password necessary for the 'unlock' choice.

What you're referring to is the same lock I'm talking about...but you haven't established a password yet.

Oh, nice! I thought that was pretty easy to unlock that keyboard. Now I'm for sure trying the pocket...
Thanks!

dkmadrid, I carry my VZW 7250 in my pocket and after 24 hours my battery is only down to about 80%. You should get pretty good battery life.

On the 7250 you can also press the "K" key to lock your bb.

I'm a prenoob, I plan to get mine tomarow. Could you cut a fridge magnet with some busness card on it and place it over the magnet on the BB? I don't have one so I'm not sure if that would work.

Fridge magnets are not strong enough to work with the BB you need a real magnet. Thin one are usually sold at arts and crafts stores.
