Picking up a new handset today and would like to get your thoughts on transferring settings and data over.

Do I do a simple sync on Desktop Manager (do I need a new version of that by the way? and do I need to mess around with that software at all?) or do I do a full out backup/restore.

I'm nervous that the latter option will do something funky given that the OS's are slightly different.

Thanks!

You need to use Desktop Manager, Device Switch Wizard.

And, just because I'm paranoid. I would do a backup first.

I was hesitant about using the DSW, just because different OSs and handset features.

Will definitely backup - I do that and sync daily.

It will not matter.
Desktop manager is developed to be able to do just that. Switch information from one "older" device to one "newer" device with little or no problems.
RIM want you to continue using their devices, so they make the process as easy as possible.
