Default Desktop Manager

Use the Media Manager application available to you in Desktop Manager. That's what it is designed for.

Do you have a MicroSD card? If not, get one now because the space on the Pearl's internal memory is limited.

Seems the chips are on sale now, even at local retail stores.

Do a search in here for the word "transfer" and you will find all kinds of info on how to transfer files.

Basically you need to install DeskTop Manager on to your PC.

Once doing that you plug your phone into your PC with the USB cable that came with the phone.

Once connected, open DeskTop Manager and you will see the icon for transferring files on to the Pearl.

Once getting a chip, look up my thread on how in install the chip on to the Pearl, it seems easy, but it can be screwed up.

The look up how to set up the Pearl to work with the MicroSD chip.

I use Windows XP to transfer files on to my MicroSD chip, so I have forgotten how to use DeskTop Manager.

But as I recall it was not a drag and drop. You had to select the file to be transferred then click an arrow or something to tell DM to transfer it.

Like I said, I don't think it's a drag and drop. You have to click an "add" button or something.

Are you sure that DM says the phone is connected? Will say so at the bottom of the DM interface.

Def. Get an SD card and If you prefer not to use the desktop manager to transfer files, you can always select menu>options>advanced options (ensure the following settings are active:

Media Card Support: ON
Mass Storage Mode Support: On
Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode when Connected: Yes

This allows you to use the device as you would a jump drive. Once connected, you can browse the folders as you would normally. I tend to use this method more than the desktop manager as i jump between mac and pc for media content.

Hope this helps.

**EDIT**
Also when i initially placed the sd card in my phone, the device created the following folder structure on the card:
-Blackberry
-Music
-Video
-Ringtones
-Pictures

Do you see this?

Oh, OK, then you need to make sure your phone settings are correct for use of the chip.

Once set up, you CANNOT transfer files to the chip via Desktop Manager because the chip will not show up in DeskTop Manager.

Instead, you use Windows XP Explorer to transfer files.

Here is how you set up the Pearl for MicroSD.

To set the Pearl up to use the MicroSD card:

<settings>

<advanced options>

<Media Card>

Turn <Media Card Support> to 'on'

Turn <Mass Storage Mode Support> to 'on'

Set <Auto Enable Mass Storage...> to 'yes'

click <escape> key [key to right of trackball] to get to <save> option

Scroll to 'yes' and click trackball to save the settings.

Reset your phone by removing and reinstalling the battery.

On reboot the Pearl will create folders on the chip.
