Hey guys,

I have a user that seems to have gone over their message limit on there blackberry. And I understand it that the blackberry has a quota for how many messages, ringtones, contacts and calendar entries, etc. Also the blackberry does not warn you once you hit that quota and will delete older messages on its own. Now is there something out there that will warn a user that there messages quota is going to be hit soon? Thanks for your help.

I have never heard of message, ringtone, contact, calendar quotas. What do you think the actual number is? I know one person who has over 5,000 contacts on his BB, and I am sitting with about 1200 messages on mine right now.

I am betting yours is a memory issue, and the user needs to free some space. That is a common issue (disappearing call logs and messages) on the 8100 and to a lesser extent on the 8800. follow the step prescribed below to free some memory. Likewise, and good reboot by pulling the battery about once a week will help keep the device memory clear.

Good luck.

well truth be told the user has about 3000 contacts and 12000 emails on the blackberry. So I'm thinking that messages have surely hit the quota. I will relate the prescribed method to the user...hopefully he listens to me. But no one has ever heard of an application that will let you know when you are running low on memory.

What quota I still ask?

The quota is the device memory limit. Easy to check: Options > Status.

well i know that on the 8800 there is a certain set amount of MB just dedicated for mp3's on the device memory since it would let me add more music even though i had 20 mb left. So I'm assuming that there is one for messages as well.

Right, like I said, it is memory-limited, not a number quota. Therefore, clear and free some memory.

I'm sure you already know this but, there is a setting for how long to keep messages on the BB. By default it is set to 30 days.
