Is it possible to save an email attachment, such as a Word document, then edit it ... and then resend it back to the original person? I've scoured the web and the manual and can find no way of doing this ... although it seems like it should be a simple feature to have.

Yes you can, there are 3rd party applications that allow this, such as Docs To Go.

If you're running OS 4.5, Docs To Go Standard Edition is included for free.

Note that with OS 4.5 Doc To Go is free but not the full version. you can open, save, but not Edit or Create new documents. The full version is $49.00 right now ($20.00 savings)

For what it's worth, I am able to download a word attachment to my media card, then browse to it, open it in Docs to Go, press the menu key and select edit mode.

This will not work on Office 2007 files. You will need to purchase the full version.
