Default Cingular/ATT users....are you getting charged for Verichat?

Please Login to Remove!

I've read a few posts on some AT&T wireless forums, where they mentioned that the Unlimited BB plan that both AT&T and Cingular have does not include IM programs such as Verichat. I wanted to verify that you guys were or were not getting charged. Thanks

Pritam

I'm on Cingular's unlimited plan, and I was not charged for Verichat last month.

Yes, I believe so. I haven't called the "xxxxxin' Betty" menu at 611 yet to ask. However, I also noticed a few kb charges on dates prior to installing VeriChat. I'll have to call to get clarification.

For now, my VeriChat trial ended, so I'm holding off.

IM+ apparently uses WAP. I wonder if that is detectible by AT&T's cashier?

We all want IM included in our unlimited plans. My wife and I are Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing and would use IM, not a voice plan to each other.

I'm with Cingular, and have used it for about 6 weeks now ...no charges yet (knock on wood!)

yup...I saw the same thing on my bill. I'm gonna fight like heck on this. In my eyes, unlimited means unlimted.

seems like with AT&T you end up w/ charges, and with cingular you don't ... very odd, maybe call em up and make sure everythings set on the $44.95 cingular bb plan...

I've known I get charged. I also wish that unlimited usage really meant unlimited usage on all programs on the BB. Not just AT&T's own.

We should start a petition and send it to AT&T

Default Just signed up for unlimited / unlimited

After reading the posts in thi sthread, I added "Media Net Unlimited", since I plan to use as much bandwidth as it will allow me. It costs $24.99. Now if I can just figure out how to get my TCP working!!

I dont understand these "data" fee's that you guys get. with t-mobile I get unlimited everything. I never saw anything, even in the fine print, about how much "data" I can download or send.

It's all abstract business nonsense anyway. They charge you for what they can get away with charging you for. Bandwidth costs T-mobile the same as it does AT&T, maybe more. T-mobile can't take the risk of angering it's client-base, so they stay true to the meaning of their marketing terms.

Most Deaf people I know use T-Mobile's SKII. $30 Unlimited and includes AIM Client. I prefer the BB, specifically my 7290 from ATT, but I pay $46 for unlimited and can't get a chat program included to use Relay Services. I'd pay for VeriChat, but not for the extra out-of-network data overages.

I ought to be talking to them about it, instead of preaching to the choir

Steve, you may want to tell your deaf friends about this:
BlackBerry Advantages For The Deaf
(I am deaf as well.)

By the way, why use AIM for relay? AIM is too slow for relay
(AIM members "My IP Relay", "HipRelay", "LormarTTY")

Why not use telnet://wireless.ip-relay.com:2510 ... (Use Idokorro MobileSSH). It is realtime keypress-at-a-time, no need to hit Enter.

cingular charged me data rates of either $0.03/kb or $0.01/kb for using verichat with the wix pay per use feature. not cool. they refunded the charges but removed the feature as well. will now call bb support to see what to do next.

I just learned yesterday about HIP Relay's WAP version: http://207.91.17.54/wrelay.asp
It's slow, but works and because it uses the included BB Browser, the data charges should be included in the unlimited plan as opposed to third-party app data charges.

We won't be ordering pizza with it, but to call hearing friends and family, it should hold up okay.

Don't forget the free Ramble AIM chat software, which you can use for relay services, if you don't want to pay for VeriChat.

I personally prefer a telnet-based relay service because it is realtime "keypress-at-a-time" operation, just like desktop IP-RELAY. I use Idokorro MobileSSH and point it to "wireless.ip-relay.com" and port 2510.

I don't like "Hit Enter/Refresh" stuff like AIM and WAP.

No. Verizon and T-Mobile do not charge for any kind of non-email/web data. Modem works on T-Mobile and is unlimited.

Also, if you get BES/MDS hosting at $10-$20 per month, then you don't pay extra for VeriChat. So if you stick to Cingular and spend more than $10 per month on data, just get BES/MDS hosting service at flat $10-$20 per month, and you solve your data problem. (As long as you don't use the modem feature).
