I'm a new BB user having a few tech probs with new software, I have been advised to download OS, do I need this software to open applications on certain websites?

Yeah. I had a problem with my parents 8820 as well. I could not install ANY software because it kept complaining that it could not find the right software for the device. So we had to download the OS EVEN THOUGH we had the latest version already on the device. It fixed the problem completely. It said it had to update a couple of things though ... which I did, and took the opportunity to also remove other language files and other things. Now I can install anything I want!

Download the new OS even though you already have the latest one. I have argued with people on here that keep saying NO YOU ONLY DO THAT FOR UPDATES. But don't listen to them, it has worked 100% of the time with 5 people so far that have purchased the new devices, including my parents. This includes a Tmo 8320.
