9900 white screen of death only with battery in???
Please Login to Remove!
I have a BB Bold 9900. All was well until one night I went to sleep with phone fully functional and only to wake up and find out in the morning the phone would not start and show a battery logo with red cross (no battery).
- The phone would not start, no RED LED when putting the battery in. And would not show anything on the screen if not plug in to the wall or USB, totally dead!
- The battery is fully charged and working (tested on another bold). If I plug in the battery it gets 2/3 loaded and then white screen of death and computer does not recognize the phone.
- If I plug in the charging cable or USB, the red led would lit for 30 seconds, and then screen shows the battery logo with red cross
I tried almost everything internet suggested:
1) Got a working battery from my co-worker, the phone still showed no battery
2) Connected to PC, the computer recognized the phone but the drives did not show up in “my computer”
3) Tried to do an update using Desktop Manager, got a message saying “phone is rebooting or has a dead battery”
4) JL_Cmder and Javaloader could not recognize the phone
5) Tried left the phone charged for 24 hours, no luck
6) Tried left the battery out for 24 hours, no luck
7) Tried dropped the phone from 1 - 3 feet when charging, a few times, no luck
8) Tried opening the phone, the battery connector seemed to be in perfect condition, no signs of anomaly seem on the board.
9) Phone is out of warranty
10) I found that if I connect the phone to the desktop manager or JL_Cmder immediately following the USB connection, I will be able to upgrade the phone. I downgraded the system from 5.0 to 4.6, and still have a screen showed up with no battery logo.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can do!

Welcome to the forums. Has the phone come in contact with any moisture. Drop it in water? Leave it in the bathroom while you were in the shower? Used it when it was raining? Used it why working out (sweating)?

I know that you're more experienced than me that's for sure jscovyers, but I remember some water went in my bold 9k while I was showering, most of my commands didn't work so I left the batter out and left it like that for ~8 hours, woke up, and the phone was doing good. So I hardly believe that water could damage it. :o Most of my old phones (samsung, nokia) worked fine after a few hours since water went into them. So that's the same thing for Blackberry I believe.

It's not the same. It's damaged beyond repair. If you get water in a device, you need to leave the battery out for at least 48-72 hours, and preferably leave the device in rice to draw the water out.
You should also refrain from using your device whilst in the shower in the future.

As dc/dc stated, a little water can do a lot of damage to a device, as you are experiencing. Now, if you remove the battery from the device immediately, put the device in some uncooked rice for about 48 hours to extract all of the moisture from the phone, you may find success.
The fact that it worked afterwards is common. It may take a while before some of the components become corroded. If you don't believe this to be the case, just do a search around these forums or anywhere on the internet to see how a little moisture in a device can reek all sorts of havoc.

Water/Moisture damage is not limited to the Blackberry's, very common issue with most new smartphones.

No I do not believe it is water damage. It seems to be okay with battery out when I try to wipe it or dl new OS it cannot handle the battery being inthe phone so does not reconnect to JVM

Understood. I don't know what other advice I could give on this issue. If others have any solutions, I am sure they will share their input. You could always try contacting Bell, they may replace the device for you if it is still under warranty. However, if they notice any indication of water damage, it will not qualify for replacement.

Re: 9900 white screen of death only with battery in???
Thanks js I have opened it up as it was not under warranty. No water damage. New info though. Without the battery in the Blackberry Device manager recognizes the phone for 11 seconds. With the battery it recognizes it for 43 seconds?
This is a new one on me

Can you get it to recognize your phone using these steps?
How to Reload the Operating System on a Nuked or Bricked BlackBerry | CrackBerry.com
*would have posted the steps from the FAQ site, but it is currently down.

Re: 9900 white screen of death only with battery in???
Yes i tried the niked BB article. Thats why I mentioned the small amount of time that the phone does get recognized. Its a tough one to figure out. I do appreciate all the input.
