Welfare

I am not opposed to welfare as long as it's used correctly..
A single parent going to school full time so they can get an education is fine with me. Someone who is putting in application after application trying to find a job is ok with me.. Someone who is disabled and can't work is fine with me, ect...
Someone who sits on their duff eating the best steaks in the market, for free, while they get fatter, and fatter is not ok with me..
If they are not in school then why not make them preform some type of community service for X number of hours a month to keep getting the money? What about making them put in job applications to continue to get the money and free steaks? Why not do both?
It angers me to see people getting welfare and food stamps when all they do is sit on their fat a$$, watch TV, and eat more food.... I stand in the checkout lane with all my generic non brand name food, rarely steaks and they stand in front of me with a cart loaded with meat and name brand items...

Well said Lunk!
There are people the need and depend on welfare as they are not capable to make an income. Then there are others that are lazy and want money and food for nothing. The system is very flawed as you pointed out, and it sickens me just as much.

Thats the problem with this Country... They'd rather offer assistance to a great many who take advantage of it than offer it to someone who is not a burden on society...
I think the US needs to seriously overhaul the welfare system! Even more so in this current economic state... People who have worked their entire life should be on a priority list...
Many who have never paid a cent in taxes get it and live for free, others who have worked their entire life and paid taxes can't get it.... Sad, pretty darn sad..

The problem with the system is it has become a way of life, not just a helping hand. In some cases there are literally 4 to 5 generations living in the same public housing projects, and others who never get help. I've known so many people that have been told they don't qualify for aid and have been treated poorly (ignored in person and hung up on when calling). My 73 year old mother can't even get aid while I met a few 20 year olds who get SSI because they've been diagnosed with depression. I work 2 jobs, go to school and support my wife and 2 kids... what the hell is he depressed about?
Public aid has become a job when it was designed to be a temporary, and apparently it's not based on need.

One of the most sage comments I ever heard about welfare was several years ago. An economist said, "its a simple fact - the things you subsidize you'll get more of, while the things you tax heavier you'll get less of." That seems so obvious and unarguable, but I think our politicians forget it (along with the constituents interested in more handouts.)
Pay people to do nothing but sit on their butts, and more people will sit on their butts. Raise the taxes on small businesses and you'll have less small businesses.
I agree there's a need for welfare, but not in nearly the quantity its at at present. If you're able-bodied, you should have to WORK for your welfare payments. And although this is highly controversial and the bleeding-heart liberals cry about taking their rights away - I firmly believe that after you've had 2 children and you and they are on welfare long term, you should have to submit to (reversible, temporary) sterilization in order to continue receiving welfare. That would take care of the idiots like that unwed, unemployed mother in California who apparently went to Mexico to have enough eggs implanted to have 8 more kids to add to the 6 she already has had via in-vitro and who are all on welfare.

Hell I am depressed maybe I should use that excuse. Maybe then they will feel sorry for me. Maybe I should lie, cheat, steal and sell drugs on the corner; I know they would give it to me then.

Wirelessly posted (hope is everything!)
Lunk
I am with you 100%
Welfare has been long abused. What really irks me is the welfare recipients still have the right to vote yet pay no taxes! Absurd you say? The US military used to pay taxless but it was decided they had the right to vote but in order to have that right they must pay taxes on their income. I say tax the welfare it is afterall income for sitting on their arses!
