Default ATT Coverage and 9700

Has anyone that had an ATT 9000 that upgraded to the 9700 noticed a change in 3G service? I'm asking because my wife has an iPhone 3G, and her sister has a 3Gs. The 3G and 3Gs when side by side show 3G signal, but the 3Gs seems to hold stronger (Essentially the 3G shows 3 bars and the 3Gs shows 5). Don't know if it's just a coincidence or if the 3Gs has a better radio. What I am wondering is if the 9700 attracts and keeps a better 3G signal than the Bold 9000. Thanks.

Before the "totally depends on your location" brigade hits this thread, I had the same question before moving from the 9000 to the 9700.

Yes, the 9700 has better reception. Not entirely sure if it's a newer 3G chip, larger antenna, OS 5.0 or what. I've been able to talk in places where the 9000 simply would not. That said, it still has trouble in some areas.

Perfect? Hardly, but it's no worse.

I wouldn't recommend purchasing the 9700 if you are only looking for better signal.

@Zoinks

Thanks for your reply. I agree that it does depend location. That's why I was hoping for former 9000 to 9700 customers could chime in. Since they used the 9000 for day to day if they noticed a change in strength with the 9700. I'm not 100% sold on the 9700 yet, but I would love to finally have 3G speed consistently. My 9000 does not seem to hold the 3G signal reliably. However I can't say if it is my berry or the network....

Thanks again Zoinks.
