Default I just bought used 8310 for Att, DO i need Data PLAN

Please Login to Remove!

Hello I bought a Curve 8310 and I was told that if I bought a used one from ebay that I would not be subject to the 30 dollars a month data plan. If I bought a new one at the store that I would have pay 30 dollars a month. I know the curve 8310 does not have wifi just gps. I bought it because of the style and the texting on it. I just want to make sure for the final time before i start using it, that since i bought a used 8310 att will not charge me 30 dollars or any other data charges that could rack up my bill.

thank you kindly.

You will most likely end up with a data plan whether you want it or not. ATT routinely scans IMEIs and if they find one for a device requiring a data plan, they will add the plan.

In the future, please use the search feature first.

Yep, you'll end up with the plan anyway. AT&T will detect that you're using a BlackBerry and just jam it on your account.

Wirelessly posted (White and Nerdy)

True. And before you ask, (which I'm sure is next given the common trend on this subject), there is no way around this, no way to remove it, and there's nothing you can do about it.

Officially, AT&T's methodology is that there are too many people having too many smartphones w/o data connections that are having too many problems. That this move will push people who just want text to a quick messaging phones instead of a BlackBerry, giving them a better experience. IMHO, though, the BlackBerry perks are a lot more than Internet. Reliability, for example, is unmatched. Right now, I'm using an LG Neon. I love its keyboard. Physically responsive, spacious, reasonably intuitive, BUT... the damn thing turns itself off and has a Storm 1-esque lag when rotating the screen. Not a good experience.
