Default Keyboard Freeze

Please Login to Remove!

Morning all,

Intermittently my keyboard freezes when trying to type an email, sms, etc. I have to pull the battery in order to restore operation. Does this happen to others with a 9550, and is there a fix to this?

Thanks,
Steve

Sounds like moisture damage. Did it get wet?

Yeah, I agree with him. You should consult technical support.

Tech support won't be much help if it got wet and wasn't dried properly. See our FAQ for what to do if it got wet.

No this didnt get wet at all. Its very strange. I can be on a call, and when I have to enter digits on the kb it literally takes two presses of a key to be sent.

How long do you wait before doing the battery pull?

If it isn't moisture, then perhaps an app, or apps, hogging resources. Make sure everything is fully closed except the core apps that are always running.

I am on my second Storm 2 because I was having keyboard issues due to the elastermer problem with early units. I still have occasional issues with the new one but I think it is App related as the keyboard will become autistic for a short time and start working. Sometimes when I press the carriage return to send a text message the key will light for about 5 to 10 seconds and then things start working again. I think an App is using up all the CPU resources and when the App completes the keyboard starts working again.

I called Verizon tech support and they told me its app related, and that I needed to security wipe the device. I did this, got everything setup again, and when i went to send my first email the kb locked up again. I am starting to believe this is hw related. I am going to call VZW again this morning and get them to send me a new device.

If you wiped it and then restored everything back the way it was, it could still be an app problem. The thing to do is strip it down to stock condition, watch it a while, and then add apps back one at a time while testing in between.

My Storm 9530 screen freezes intermittantly and I have never added apps. It has done this since purchase. The only solution I have found is to take the battery out and let it sit for 30 minutes. Usually that will take care of it but it may start freezing again within an hour or go two months. Typcal time period between freezes is about 2 weeks. Never have had any moisture on it. Very annoying. After about 1 year I did add one app - GPS. No change - still the same problems.

For me it was hw related. The original batch of Storm2 had a kb issue. I had to go through 2 before I got one of the newer ones, and I have not had any issues since then.

One thing to remember about apps is that Verizon loads their apps onto the device when you do a battery pull. Issue might be a Verizon app. I have been trying to track down what causes my Storm 2 to be autisic once in a while and I am now looking at the Verizon apps. Also a dual core CPU would likely do wonders to solve this issue.
