You are correct about this one. Sadly doesn't really mean much, and it's not all that accurate by the looks of it. My 9900 box says on the outside sticker Hungary 2. The Handset has one sticker Hungary 2 and one Hungary 3. maybe i should auction it, collector's item. Probably a side production line that got mixed up. I remember a handset at work that had stickers from different regions, and the box/handset IMEI matched.
As far as quality is concerned now, it's rather early for concrete opinions but doesn't look impressive. Couldn't activate on BES on a stock out of the box handset so i did the sensible thing and wiped (from the handset). It got stuck to the dreaded reboot loop and although i could see it on the desktop it reached the initialising handset part and dropped to reboot-wipe upon reboot-wipe again. It's extremely difficult to get out of this and the solution in the FAQ here and even the official BB forums gives you a window of 2 seconds to get this right. The current cpu makes it even harder, being fast it passes the window rather quickly.
This bug is older than DEATH and is with us since the 7xxx series. 4 different trains of code, some QNX acquisitions, 3-4 mainlines of models and more than 10 years afterwards and i have to dig out and javaloader a STOCK handset. oh, the humanity..
Other things of interest.. Battery life is not great (lots of power hungry components) but surprisingly it improves with every full charge cycle.
There is nothing to keep your finger on the trackpad so while browsing or clicking your finger slides to the screen with unexpected clicking and selecting that gets annoying. The 9000 didn't even have a touchscreen but the housing had a plastic edge to keep your finger from the screen.
For any of you that have accessories, the Media Gateway connects extremely fast and performs great. Trying to get the Blackberry Presenter to work is another story now. Hitting the install-download URL with the 9900 browser reports Sorry your device does not meet the system requirements.
Presenter is supported from the 8520 up to the 9780. For some strange reason the 9900 doesn't quite cut it yet.
Tried to unlock carrier lock was yet some more good fun. The good ole MEPD/MEP2 doesn't seem to work. You need to actually boot with a different carrier sim to the lock for the window to present itself. More annoyance since most people unlock before travelling and they don't hold overseas sims in their wallets.
Buyers remorse (the good old BUYR) used to retain info of net traffic/calls even upon wipe. Not any more. It resets to zero essentially rendering the feature useless.
Don't move it to rants. I'm not ranting. Just some early criticism.
I want column view back in the browser, BADLY. I'm prepared to pay cash if any of you can cook a working solution.
