Going out on a limb here, but I think he/she means held in portrait instead of landscape.

Re: 9850 Won't Assign Convenience Key
Have you made any progress on this?
I've been assuming the key works...i.e. whatever the assignment now, when you press the key it does it. Is that correct?
Assuming that, I'd try an OS upgrade unless you are already using the latest.
Otherwise, I think I would try experimenting, starting with least trouble first. If you are using a third-party theme, switch to a stock theme as a test. Remove your microSD card (who knows, probably not the problem, but a bad card does cause weird stuff to happen). Try a security wipe and elect to delete third party apps. Worst case, do a wipe and then reload the OS.

I haven't had any issue re-assigning the convenience key on my device.

ok,,, we got it,,, while tinkering i just realized the convenience key is is a "2 stage" button,,, pressing the button lightly will bring it out of sleep,,, to enable camera, or whatever your keyset is, you must press til you "feel" the second indent if that makes any sense,,, while cam is activated, (i'm guessing vid also), a light press turns on flash,,, full press takes pic,,, thanks for your time & responses ppl...

Yeah, I know what you're talking about. Kicking myself for not thinking of it.

Re: 9850 Won't Assign Convenience Key
Clarify for me please...is the convenience key the same as on my 9650 - light press to focus, press harder to snap the picture, or is this a real "2 stage" button with two distinct "clicks"?

I can't speak to your particular model,,, my model has auto focus, all of my keys are on the right & are "rubberized",,, my key seems to have a light 1st click then a heavier 2nd one,,, so it may be "real",,, i'm guessing this isn't the 1st model to have this feature...

Re: 9850 Won't Assign Convenience Key
That sounds same as 9700.....light pressure first, and button feels like it has hit bottom, and then significantly more pressure than at first to press all the way.

if you have a page open, i.e. hompage, it (soft touch) won't do anything if you have camera assigned,,, if the phone is asleep, a light touch will wake it as any other button does,,, once the camera is on, a light touch will activate flash,,, mine is set to auto,,, it may not work if you have it turned off...
P.S. I saw you have contacts assigned to convenience key in your other post,,, no matter what function you have assigned, the "soft" or 1st "click" will not access function,,, once in that function there may be something else the "soft" touch does...
