I am 1 week into the new 7130e and I am loving it. Upgraded from a 7750. The new features take some getting used to, but the screen clarity and brightness are huge for me. The suretype is tricky, but not too difficult to get the hang of. I have had verizon for years and found the reception has always been better, especially in remote locatoins. I travel a fair amount and verizon has always consistently been the best coverage.

7130e w/ laptop access (broadband connect):

I have till tomarrow to return it (15 days Verizon/Circuit City).
I'm probably going to return it and instead keep my Nextel 7520.

What bothers me is how I can't disable "dialing from home screen".
I miss my home screen shortcuts on the 7520 (c=compose, d=notes, e.t.c..)

cons:
-small screen ( i want the 8700 screen)
-difficult to read screen in daylight.
-multi tap/ suretype opposed to full qwerty
-lack of home screen shortcuts

I upgraded from the 7250. As others have said, I like the feel of the 7250 better. Feels stronger. My 7130e feels to plasticky. But, i can tether, and I love the SureType. All around, the 7130e is a huge upgrade. The screen is amazing.

Has anyone else had problems with the 7130e having a long delay (30+ seconds) before it connects when making a call?
I've also noticed that there is no Web icon on this handset?!

regarding the suretype...is it really that much worst then lets say a standard cell phone when sending a text message?...it seems to me that it is very similar to that concept...so it wouldnt be THAT much of a big deal if your used to that....honestly i have a tough time with the 7290 right now...im just not used to using a full sized keyboard in that small of a package....im going to have to go and play around with the 7130e...i just hate tmobile reception...it is horrible out here and i dont want to be carrying around 2 cell phones (personal and work) and a blackberry all the time..thats just overkill....if i like the 7130e...i'll get that...with verizon reception...and just add forwarding on my personal cell phone and forward all calls to my blackberry and thats it....1 phone/blackberry at all times....

I agree the SureType is a bit to get used to. I approach it this way...I type as if each letter has its own key and not paying attention to how each key has 2 letters. Coming from a regular phone, you intent to try to double tap, etc. I also ignore the line of suggested words (unless its a odd word) and continue to type and let SureType do its trick. I will say the accuracy is pretty high. Once you get past this, SureType is actually a great technology.

I will say that the 7130e online looks pretty ugly. The marketing pictures make the grey look more grey. In person its alot darker and looks pretty nice. I thought the same with the 8700c photos online.

I love mine, although I've noted a few quirks in other threads: inability to turn off the "beep" when typing in a phone number to dial (without a work-around) and frequent "Data Connection Refused" messages. I supposedly solved the DCR messages by upgrading to the latest OS yesterday after a few calls to VZW tech support. Also, the customization of ring tones is kinda clunky as they interact with profiles.

Aside from that, though, I love it. It has a great display and works well as a substitute for opening up my laptop in a pinch. Also, the speakerphone works really well.

I've had the 7130e for about a week and like it so far. The bottom line for me is that VZW is available in some of the rural areas where I travel. Cingular/Sprint/etc are not. So, given that the 7130e is the only smartphone that a consumer can buy from VZW that has EVDO tethering, which is another feature I want, I settled for it. (I know there's some way to get EVDO and a 7250, but it isn't officially supported.) If I had a choice, I would have probably opted for a 8700, but who knows when that's coming out?
