Just my $.02, but the 8700 series as a platform utilize the Intel chipset. The 8703e will not deviate from that, and if it did, it would have already been released since there would not be such a long test phase given the processor is the same, with some updated jvm code and more memory. RIM would not manufacture another 8700 series device yet somehow back level it to an older shipset. The 7130e does use the Intel chipset (312Mhz) the same one in the 8700 series to date.
The business 2 business customers are rumored to see it online on Sunday 9/17, so I'll log into my special Verizon page (I work for IBM) and see whether it is there or not. We get some pretty deep discounts on the 7130 and 7250, so will be interesting to see the pricing on the 8703e.

The PDF is correct. It is referring to the qualcomm chipset that handles the CDMA/EVDO radio. The CPU processor is not listed on the pdf.

What is your source regarding the 7130e has an Intel Chipset? I could be wrong, but as far as I know, none of VZW's BlackBerry has an Intel CPU.

Look, i stated before im no pro at processors AND never owned a blackberry device.
However, I have proved someone wrong who stated that verizon blackberrys have never had intel processors.
Furthermore, someone also stated that the processor wasnt listed in the PDF Spec Sheet. He noted that only the CDMA Qual. Chip was listed.
Its still in the air, as its not listed, however there is NO reason why RIM would insert old technology in a new device, especially when their "latest" blackberry - the 7130e - has the 8700g processor (as listed in the above specs).
It is my opinion that the 8700g has an intel processor - the same as the 8700g. I suspect slowdown to be because of blackberry servers on the Verizon side, the adjustments to Ev-do, who knows what.
*Also* they removed the 8703e gif from the picture... it was there, with a t-mobile background oddly enough..

YUP!!!
Intel Centrino Core 2 Duo 2.0Ghz! [/sarcasim]
relax... the intel inside or not doesn't make a huge difference... the network and the OS and memory are what really counts.

Ok, i didnt mean like a brain damaged 8 year old, I got the part about the network, ram etc... but why not have the most up to date hardware on a device that is almost a year old when you put it out...

and if the internals are the same between the 2 phones, that really makes the only differences the screen and keyboard... Does anyone have exact dimensions on the screens, or possibly a side by side photo to see *how much* bigger the 8703's screen is? For the money difference, it better be a LOT nicer.

It was there earlier. Still in my browser cache even. Shift-reload and sure enough it's gone. Ten/eleven more days (hopefully) and we'll see what it's all about. I'd also be interested to see if Verizon stops disabling MMS with this model. -Pk

OK folks...no need to get freaked out. A quick and clear rundown:
The 8703e uses the Intel processor. It's standard amongst the 8700-series...even the 8707v that our European friends get.
The Qualcomm setup is the RADIO that has to do with the fact that the unit is CDMA.
These are two separate issues. Yes, it has an intel processor. Yes, it has a Qualcomm radio chipset.
The 8703e is the same size as an 8700g. This is not an entirely new model or something...just a Verizon version of the same thing us GSM folks have been enjoying for a while now.
Hope that clarifies.

Sprint
Does anyone know if Sprint will ever get there act together and announce plans to release the 8703? Corporately, we're stuck with Sprint/Nextel and I'm ready to shoot my Nextel 7520. Love the 7520... hate Nextel's network these days. Can't make a reliable voice call to save my life. (sorry for the mini-rant)
