Default Headphone Jack Design Defect

Please Login to Remove!

I have an 8830 and a Seido headphone adapter. This is my second 8830. The first one was recently replaced under warranty after the headphone jack broke (intermittent sound between headphones and speakerphone or no headphone sound at all). Now the second one just broke. The first one took less than 20 headphone plug-ins before it stopped working, and this one less than 5. Either I am very unlucky or there are is a design/quality control defect in these jacks. I can't be the only one. Are others experiencing these problems? Frequent warranty replacements are worse than no warranty at all....

This reminds of my previous phone, the Treo 700p. It had a very weak headphone jack that could be broken with little to no effect.

I have two Seido headphone adapters for my BB 8800. I have had both of them for about a month. One is a straight 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter and the other is the recoiling cord version. A few days ago, the straight adapter became intermittent. At first I thought it was the BB Jack but when I switched to the other adapter, the problem went away. Make sure the problem is not the adapter by trying another adapter before replacing the BB.
I don't think I have my receipt any more so I'm probably out of luck for a replacement.

I have returned 2 of the seido adapters for my 8800. First did not work as stereo when I got it and the second quit after about 2 months of pretty regular use as I listen to audible books. It seems like the adapter lost its outside coat of paint as it turned from gold to silver color.

I have had this one for over a month and all seems great so far.

Seido has been very good about sending a new one with my only cost the return postage on my returned adapter. I would suggest you emailing customer service and explaining what yours is doing.

I just bought the Seido adapter as well. I will let you know how it goes. I hope it is just you that is having bad luck with the 8830, because this will replace my iPod, and if it only last a few days/weeks, it's worthless to me.

I have returned 2 8800's from TMO because the headset has been defective and once because the USB connection was very weak. I am not sure but the quality seems to be a bit lower than with the 8700 models. The housing looks great and the form factor is a litter smaller than I would like but the functions of the phone are good.

IMO I think the second generation 8800's will be much better, or at least I hope so.
