I changed to the t-mobile version, and yes it kills off the text descriptions of applications on the home screen and the shortcuts. But iv not had any problems with messages and hav not found it any slower. There are a few additional options here which seam usefull so i doubt il be going through the half hour process of changing the OS again any time soon.

I loaded Zen via the java loader. Next time I did a sync, the BB desktop software removed Zen, saying it was an unrecognized module. How can I prevent it from doing that?

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry7100i/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/103)

Add the Zen theme to the blackberry.alx file or load it via the Zen.alx file posted earlier in this thread.

Anyone come across this issue when removing some of the excess themes out of the blackberry.alx file?

after the themes(modules) were removed, and the blackberry reinitializaed, i lost my Message icon and functionality. i can't press "M" as a shortcut when i click on my list of applications on my Zen theme, and the icon does not exist anywhere, yet, anytime i'm in the phone app, i can see an envelope for messages not read(PIN, missed call). i've took the battery out and did a reboot a few times, with no avail. any thoughts? it's kinda annoying...

Default Zen vs other themes and reception.

Hey all,

I have have 7100G. Maybe I am goofy, but It really seems that when Zem is the active theme, I get worse reception than when I had the default List theme. Is that possible? The settings look the same (network option). Normally my reception at home is 1-2 bars, not great, but I rarely have trouble connecting.

Since Zen a few days ago, the BB has been searching for the network a bunch of times. Any suggestions?

I can't possibly imagine what it would have to do with the theme, but I posted something very similar when I did the upgrade and began to use Zen. The handset does seem to be talking to the network more, but since I bought a hi-cap battery it isn't that much of a bother.

I have a 7100t, and here is what I do:

After installing ZEN, remove the battery and replace it, then place a test call from your device, and hit every application in the menu once (inlcuding each item in the application menu and the symbol grid in e-mail).

I find when I do this that navigation is much better and it searches for signal less often. recycling the power by removing/replacing the battery tends to free up additional memory.

markdmumy: the only majour one is the option to turn off data during roaming or compleatly.

p_dizzo: its easier to just delete the theme cod files from the java directory when you install the os, then there already there incase you upgrade and less risk of removing something else at the same time.

LPeeples: the reception of some of the version of the os are reported to be better, but iv not noticed any difference between the hk or cingular or the tmobile versions.

Oh and the other majour advantage of the tmo version is the memory leak in zen has been fixed. No longer wasting memory on nothing but changing audio profiles is a little slower.

no because nextel hasnt released a new OS yet and we are still at .112 or so and you need .300 for zen to work.... nextel is gay like that lol i check every day to see if there is a new release yet. the blackberry people told me at nextel they release a new os every 90 days but we all know its been longer than that.
