I agree - it is frustrating. That being said, I've upgraded my Cingular 7290 with the Rogers build (234 "beta"). Not sure what's beta about it since I haven't had a lick of issues. I also just went to BES 4.0 on our back end. IT'S WORTH THE UPGRADE. The install is WAY better than 3.6 and I think the server is more reliable (they've re-written many bits and broken out tasks into individual services so one task crashing doesn't take everything else down). You'll LOVE the Handheld Administrator too. Just my $0.02.

Verizon has now posted the BlackBerry 7250 OS 4.0 download on their download page linked in the first post of this thread.

Although this seems to be 4.0.0.204, the same version preinstalled on Verizon BlackBerries, this is great because this includes the Password Keeper, which is not installed by default. Also, some people need to reinstall BlackBerryOS. In addition to this, it allows you to safely add/remove components such as uninstalling BrickBreaker if you don't want the videogame taking up memory on your 7250. Plus, it finally allows you to install Dynoplex eOffice successfully on a Verizon 7250 without error messages.

So this is indeed a minor upgrade for existing 7250 users, even though the version number is the same as the OS installed by default on a 7250.

Installed password keeper on my VZW BB7250.

Saved me $20 USD since now I don't have to buy a password program.

This forum has been a great source of information on the blackberries.

Thanks.

Exclamation Nextel v 4.0 on a 7510 Problems abound

I upgraded from 3.72 to version 4.0.0 upon its release. I have had nothing but problems with the release. 4.0 appears to be unstable for Nextel on the 7510. Stupidly enough, I traded in three 7510's due to a myriad of errors and error codes with the 4.0 software running. Nextel customer support runs the same mantra: send in the phone and get a new one in 24 hours, so you if you are a heavy business user, you don't want to get tied up for hours on customer support lines - you just want a working phone. After my 3rd one, I contacted RIM technical support - who claimed no known issues.

I received my fourth trade in phone, and ran 3.72 for a week, with no problems, then upgraded to 4.0. Instant problems. Scrubbed the phone using javascript and re-installed 4.0. Same problems. Scrubbed it again and reverted to 3.72, and now its stable. Known problems include: battery life ? errors, screen lockup, the phone turning itself on and off, dropped calls, pile of errors that require constant reset issues, and an overall decrease in speed. I didn't realize that 4.0 appears to be a beta software for Nextel. Try it for yourself if you wish, but be prepared to revert to your previous OS. The refurb 7510 replacements are all coming in with v3.7 installed stock, so RIM must know something is amiss to not have them rebuilt with 4.0.

I installed 4.0.0.219 on my Cingular 7290. I like the password keepeer. However, if the unit is locked and the phone rings, it just shows the number and not the name of the caller (if the caller is in the address book).

In addition the BT volume is much lower than before. I did get it working as a modem which I couldn't do before.

Default Enterprise Activation?

After upgrading to 4.0 I can't send mail. It says "no message service configured" Do I need to have an email address, password to activeate 4.0? Does the "Enterprise Activation" have anything to do with this?

edit: Using 7290 with Cingular

Thanks.

I've noticed that before, but on a similar note, Refurb units from Motorola usually take a while to come shipped with the newest firmware. Might be Nextel stockpiles on them so even when new firmware versions come out, nextel still has the older ones.

If you have a Nextel BB, you can only use an upgrade from Nextel.

Default 7100 4.0 Upgrade Question

The 4.0 Upgrade FAQ says "There are actually advantages in BlackBerryOS 3.8 including modem support, which most other 4.0 releases may not contain.."

That being said, I have a 7100t and would like to use it as a wireless modem...does this mean I will lose this functionality if I upgrade from 3.8??

After upgrading to 4.0 I can't send mail. It says "no message service configured"... Go to your webmail version of the account and send yourself a new service book.

Default I got v4.0 working on O2!!

Finally, after 3 weeks of trying, I managed to get midpssh working on my blackberry 7230 (my operator is O2 Ireland). To save others the hassle I went through, here's what I did:

1. First of all 7230's come with RIM OS 3.7 installed. Midpssh needs 4.0 or higher to work (this is because 4.0 has a full TCP/IP stack and the earlier versions dont)

2. The RIM OS cannot just be downloaded from blackberry.com, it has to be acquired from your operator (in my case O2)

3. The problem is there is no mention of it on the o2 website. Anyway after I week or two on O2 tech support I managed to track it down

4. Go to:
http://www.btcellnet.net/MMO2-ext/kb...=cat&c=-540870

5. You will need to get a username and password for O2 (email [email address] or [email address])

6. Go to 'BlackBerry Software Downloads' and 'BlackBerry Enterprise Server Software v4.0' and 'RIM 7230 Software v4.0'

7. Download and run this executable which will install the new OS v4.0 on your handheld

8. On your handheld, Go to options, and TCP. Set APN to internet and leave the username and password blank

9. Take out your battery to reboot your blackberry and that's it, Midpssh should work fine!

I am fed up with the 7100t because of the audio distortion problem on phones with 4.0. Everyone I call complains about how terrible it sounds. Very staticky. 3.8 just was fine.

We have had three 7100t phones.

#1. Came with 3.8. No problems. Upgraded to 4.0. No longer usable because of audio distortion and static. Couldn't downgrade. Once 4.0 is in the phone, it stays in. Returned it to dealer.

#2. Came with 3.8. No problems. Upgraded to 4.0. No longer usable because of audio distortion and static. Had it replaced by T-mobile. They sent a refurbished phone with 3.8. Have not done the upgrade. Works great! Fantastic phone. Great audio. (My wife is using it. I'm jealous.)

#3. Purchased new phone from T-Mobile store. Came with 4.0. Not usable because of audio distortion and static. I'm returning it to the store.

Obviously, the problem is 4.0. I have asked three T-mobile Blackberry phone reps and one Blackberry company phone rep and they all say they have never heard of this before I mentioned it. I don't believe them. Other people are complaining in this forum about it. I hope they do a firmware upgrade to correct the problem.

How do I find 3.8 and how do I install it to replace 4.0? I have searched high and low on the web for 3.8 and it just doesn't seem to be there. Perhaps someone has it saved on their desktop and can e-mail it to me at [email address].
