Unfortunately that's how everyone thinks of him and he's not; he's most well known and vocal of the conservative talk show hosts and nothing more. He has a lot of listeners and supporters but that doesn't mean he speaks for everyone. Personally I like him, I just don't agree with everything he says.
You are right mriff, Rahm Emanuel played that card right; basically saying that Rush speaks for the party and for Republicans. Now when Rush says something controversial, it's prima facie evidence that all Republicans think the same. If Rush has any influence, he should take the cue from conservatives and rally for true bipartisanship instead of dividing not only the parties, but the Republican party as well. There is a rift between true conservatives and Republicans, he's either ignoring it feeding off of it. Either way it's bad for everyone.
Despite
Rush's opinion of Michael Steele and all that's been said over the past few weeks, I think he is a great choice to head the RNC.
