I just ran in to a friend who has the tour (sprint) and complained of the SAME trackball issue. I compared his tour with mine and his trackball stuck up higher out of the phone then mine. He is on his way to the store now to exchange his.

Sounds like a bad batch made it to Sprint customers. Trust me, my replacement works PERFECTLY.

aftr reading all these post I went down to verizon to change out my TOUR with retarded trackball. NO PROBLEM. They exchanged my original TOUR and gave me a NEW one out of the box. The trackball NOW works just FINE. No more bouncing or going it's OWN way.
lololol
Just trade it in if you bought it new. That is the only REAL answer.

Ordered a replacement from Sprint, it should arrive in a couple of days. Hoping the one I get is better than the one I have. The trackball is so erratic, the device is hard to use.

This may help. Lock the keyboard, then depress the trackball. Keeping it depressed, roll the ball in all directions for a minute or so. For some reason, this helps immensely. My trackball would not work horizontally at all until I did this. Sounds crazy, but it's true. Give it a shot.

I just got back from the Verizon store. This is my third Tour. The first had real crappy battery drain, i.e. it would last about 10 hours on normal usage. With the second Tour we have the bad track ball. This is a known issue. If you have a bad track ball please return it ASAP. If you have a problem, typically the horizontal roll is jumpy and sticky... not mechanically but in the software itself.

Moving left to right and right to left is really bad on my tour as well.
After the 2nd day its really bad =\
I dont want to take it to the store & get a refurbished shit or they screw it up more or damage the phone as they usually do.

Got my first replacement from sprint the next day after ordering it, the first one had trackball issues. I was disappointed that the new one came from the same fulfillment center, was from the same build, Mexico 5 and same PCB#, and even had a esn and pin #'s that were only several hundred above my original. But, the trackball is considerably more stable. I need to use it for a few days to be sure it is acceptable.
The one I will return had a loose back and so does this one, neither has screen ripple. If this one remains stable, I will keep it and apply one of the tape repairs that are suggested for the back, not thrilled about having to do that, but I do not want to risk getting another bb worse than the replacement.
It took a couple of hours for the relacement to become provisioned. 2 levels of CS couldn't get it provisioned and I wound up with a BB tech specialist, and after over an hour and multiple wipes and battery pulls, we finally got it provisioned, not exactly the way I intended spending a chunk of my evening. The tech said she is spending most of her time on the phone with Tour users getting their phones provisioned, seems that they are buggy with that process.

I decided to go ahead and swap my device for a new one, the trackball works perfectly on the new one (old was glitchy left and right).
