Yeah that is BS just tell them you wiped it have them send it and then when you get the new one and switch to new phone wipe it before you send it to them.

If the GPS can't get a signal from a satellite, it uses cell tower triangulations to give you an estimated location.

I heard somewhere that Verizon blocks GPS and that they charge like $3 per month if you want GPS use. I'm on Sprint, and I don't have any issues at all.

Default GPS enabled on SaskTel BB Tour

This is what I did on my Tour:
1. Go to Options and then Status.
2. Once there type "test" on your keypad. You will get a message that says “To start testing, click start in the menu!”, and it will bring up the self test program.
3. A window will display titled “Device Self Test Application”
4. Click the trackball and select “Start”
5. Go down and only choose GPS and then click the icon / button marked Run. A screen will come up with some instructions. All I had to do was go outside and click the trackball and click "start fixing". It ran for less than a minute and give me the results, similar to the following:
GPS fixing succeeds!
Latitude: nn.nnnnn
Longitude: -nn.nnnnn
Course: 0.0
Address Info: null
Speed: 0.0
Extra Info: Valid Location.
Time to get auto fix : nnnnn ms
I then installed BBGPSGolf and tested it. BBGPSGolf actually displayed different distances and GPS locations as I walked down the street. I love it - can't wait to get to the golf course and actually use it!
