Welcome to the forums.

Plug in the device to the PC, run Desktop Manager and open Application Loader. Make sure that Documents to Go is checked in the box. Then, sometimes, Documents To Go gets it's own folder on the home screen. If there is a folder then the apps should be in the folder.

You said you installed OS 4.5 on your 8310, though. How did you install it if the apps aren't there? What does it say on your BB in Options >About?

It says v4.5.0.55 (Platform 2.7.0.68) and has several Micro Editions listed. I am also running DM v4.5. I don't get it....You would think there would be something listed?

Default Stuck!

My upgrade seems to be stuck on:

"Retrieving module "tn_rim_51_global_resources.cod"
"Retrieving wirelessly delivered application modules"

Have I screwed it up? What should I do. Wait longer?

Anybody? Help!

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)

I've seen this before. Just unplug, reboot the BB and the PC and try again. It hasn't made any changes to the device yet.

Hey boys and girls, new to the thread. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that I had (past tense) significant issues with the install dying and leaving me with a 561/3/07..etc. AFTER wiping the device;i.e. I was left with a door stopper.

After read all ten pages of this thread, I found a link to use the loader.exe from DOS. Well that failed too. Finally, read the first line of "What to do next if Jl Cmder will not connect and wipe" and found the issue. I had (and always have) connected to my PC via USB hub. That was the issue. I connected directly to the ports on my MB and Viola!!!!!!!!! it worked. Time to have some fun.

Anyway, for those that had the 561/507 issues, make sure you're not connecting via hub.

Ciao!

Thanks for the info. Yup, hubs and Blackberrys don't mix.

I did the upgrade about 3 days ago and I noticed that i don't seem to get GPRS connection anymore just EDGE. From what I read in the FAQ the EDGE connection is a faster (better?) connection. Could this be a result of the OS upgrade or changes on the Rogers network?

Most likely it's a change on the network that just happens to coincide with loading the new OS. GPRS to EDGE is a network upgrade.

Question

I'm a little scared to update my Blackberry to the OS4.5 because what if something happens and my phone doesn't work.
My question is.....let's say that I download the new firmware and install it and everything. If I do not want it anymore or if I notice that something is wrong, would I be able to go to the General Settings and select the WIPE HANDHELD and would that bring me back to the factory settings, and back to OS4.2?

You can roll back, but it's not that simple. You have to "downgrade." It's just as simple as the upgrade, though. Simply uninstall the upgraded version in Add/Remove Programs and install the version you want.

Default Backing up?

Thank you very much.

Also, before upgrading to the OS4.5, do I HAVE TO backup my information on my phone, such as appointments and such on the calendar, contacts, etc. or do they transfer to the new OS?

If I have to back them up, is there a quick way to do it or how would I go about this?

The upgrade process does all that automatically.

I am just in the process of upgrading to OS4.5 and it has a warning that reads: "After completing the loading operation, you must activate your device wirelessly to continue to send and receive messages and use other Blackberry services".

What does this mean? How am I to active my device afterwards?

Also, is there a way I can copy and/or save some of the preloaded images on my BB before upgrading and deleting them?

That warning is if you are on a BES system. You will have to reactivate after that. If you are just using BIS, then no need to worry about it.

You can't keep "some" of the images. it's all or nothing. I recommend removing them and just use a photo taken with your BB or something. However, if you MUST have them, here's a link:

Thank you very much for all of your help. Just one more quick question (I promise) lol. What is the difference between BES and BIS? What is that?

Is BES like business enterprise thing and BIS just regular phone carriers, like ATT?

Yes, BES is Blackberry Enterprise Server. Mostly corporations use this. If you just went to the ATT store and picked up a Blackberry and subscribed to a data plan then you are on BIS. If you received a Blackberry from your company and they setup your company email on it, most likely you are on a BES.
