You're sure the vendor.xml is deleted? Double check. c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader.
I've explained this a bazillion times on this forum and even in this thread. The vendor.xml has no effect on what is loaded onto the device. It only allows the DM to load the OS or not.
All OS's and DM have a vendor.xml file. However, many of the unreleased versions out there have blank ones. That means that it will load even if the vendor.xml is still there. If it comes from a carrier then it will have a full vendor.xml and the OS will only load on that carrier's device unless the vendor.xml file is deleted.
so did the uninstall and reinstall, deleted vendor.xml, plugged in bb and opened DM and wasn't prompted for anything. Maybe it just can't be done on this phone.
Isn't there an easier way to upgrade the OS on my BB 8310? I was hoping that it could be done OTA or through BB Destop Software. This is my first BB and I looked through AT&T and the latest OS they have is the one that is already on my phone, 4.2.2.170.
At&t announced the OS 4.5 update will be available on Sept 23rd. You will use Desktop Manager to update your Blackberry.
1. Make sure you have the latest Desktop Manager version
2. Download the firmware update for your model
3. Install OS update
4. Plug in Blackberry and Application Loader should come up showing you have a update available. If not follow the procedure in the 1st post on how to delete the vendor/device files.
BTW everyone is wishing for OTA updating but it's not quite there yet. OS 4.5 has a "update" built in but it's likely governed by at&t.
