Yes, both phones are Rev. 0. Infact, the phones themselves are identicle and use identicle hardware (Qualcomm MSM6550 chipset.) The only difference is the software and unique carrier branding.

Erm,
They have different keyboards and the Sprint has white keyboard and backlighting.
They do use the same body and screen however.

When you ordered yours did they tell you that it was backordered? I just ordered my 8830 on Saturday and they said 3 to 5 days. Is that just code for "we don't have it in stock?"

Verizon Wireless: 100 Percent Of Wireless Broadband Network Now Enhanced With Faster Speeds

BASKING RIDGE, N.J., June 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless announced
today that all of its CDMA 1x Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) network
nationwide has been enhanced to Revision (Rev.) A technology. The
enhancements throughout the company's wireless broadband network provide
customers from coast to coast with access to e-mail, everyday corporate
data, the Internet and more at faster speeds and the ability to upload
files eight to nine times faster than before.
"Earlier this year, we announced we were making the nation's first
wireless broadband network even better by significantly improving network
speeds and performance," said Dick Lynch, executive vice president and
chief technical officer for Verizon Wireless. "In just the first two
quarters of this year, we made that pledge a kept promise. When other
carriers still operate networks that don't allow customers to download
music over-the-air or access e-mail at speeds faster than dial-up, Verizon
Wireless is meeting the needs of more than 210 million people with wireless
music downloads, faster access to e-mail and true wireless broadband
Internet browsing."
The enhanced network allows Verizon Wireless customers to download
files at speeds as much as ten times faster than customers of other
wireless service providers that use different broadly deployed network
technologies.
BroadbandAccess at Faster Speeds
The company's flagship business data service, BroadbandAccess, runs
faster and more efficiently with the new network enhancements; customers
can take advantage of upload speeds that are eight to nine times faster
than before plus interact with Web-based applications with improved latency
for an even better experience. For example, BroadbandAccess customers with
Rev. A- compatible devices can now expect average download speeds of 600
kilobits per second (kbps) to 1.4 megabits per second and average upload
speeds of 500-800 kbps, which means customers can download a 1 Megabyte
e-mail attachment -- the equivalent of a small PowerPoint(R) presentation
or a large PDF file -- in about eight seconds and upload the same-sized
file in less than 13 seconds.
Devices that take advantage of the faster speeds provided by the EV-DO
Rev. A network enhancements include the USB720 wireless modem, V740
ExpressCard, AirCard 595 and PC5750 PC Cards from Verizon Wireless, which
are fully compatible with the company's enhanced and existing wireless
broadband networks and the company's NationalAccess network (based on CDMA
1xRTT technology).
Network Testing
Verizon Wireless dedicates a team of technical professionals, real-life
"test men and women" across the country, to monitor and test the network
every day to ensure efficient operation. The quality testing teams drive a
fleet of 98 specially equipped test vehicles almost 1,000,000 miles
annually on city streets, major highways, secondary roads and rural roads
to test network performance, call quality and data network performance on
the Verizon Wireless network and the networks of up to seven other wireless
carriers. Annually, they place more than three million test calls and
perform 16 million data tests.
The information they gather is used not only to compare performance
with competitors', but also to help engineers plan the company's annual $6
billion network improvement program, including placement of new cell sites
and expansion of existing call capabilities in growing communities. Verizon
Wireless has invested $37 billion in the last seven years to increase the
coverage and capacity of its national network and to add new services.

Hi, are you sure about the 500 retail stores in the nation having them? I called a store in NJ, NYC, and FL and all said it is only on the web right now.

Do you know of any stores in NYC that would have these now? I'd like to pick one up tonight.

Thanks!

I ordered mine last Thursday, and it arrived today. Getting charged as we speak; we'll see how adept I am at my first installation.

Sprint Plans

Hey now tht I have attempted to get a Data plan, Sprint is telling me that I need to have a 69.00 plan and that if I sign up using the 39.00 plan after 3 days the data stops working does anyone know anything about this?

In fact on my sons 8830 they said they were unable to get the data plan to work at all!

??? ... makes no sense. I received my Sprint 8830 last thursday, I've been running the $39.95 BB plan ever since with no problems!

I ran only BIS (POP3/Web email) until this monday and then added in my company BES to the mix. Both my personal (POP3) email and our corporate Exchange/Outlook email are flowing in fine with no problems.

Ask to speak to Tech Support as some of the newer CSRs are not very experienced regarding Blackberrys and with the new 8830 being VERY HOT ... reps that normally never handle Blackberry accounts are filling the void.

I had to get my corporate national account manager involved to fix it ... the regular customer svc & BB tech support only say "international plan only - it's a RIM requirement"

I think there's some internal confusion going on. Mine was shipped on the $39 plan - then they turned my data off over the weekend due to this mixup and wanted me to "upgrade" the data plan.

Several phone calls later, I got it fixed. Hopefully they'll get their act together.

Cheers,
mj

If you're on VZ (so sorry) then, no - it is locked down. The 4.2.2.123 version of the OS will "NOT" unlock GPS for you.

You'll have to wait for VZ to release their s/w that supports GPS (which will NOT be free) and they will then release the unlock as part of the license for their VZ Navigator product.

If you're still under 30 days of your free trial, you could just return the device /

If any of you are on a business account in Atlanta, I can assist in discounting the price of the device if you activate a new line of service.
I work as a Corp AE at Sprint.
