I previously had a Blackberry about 3 years ago when they only ran email, no phone capabilities. I am about to start a new job where I need to be able to check email at all times (frequent travel). My company does not have the Enterprise server but I would like to have a Blackberry for Phone/email use. The Cingular rep told me not to get a Blackberry if my company does not have an Enterprise Server. Any suggestions on what could be done for my situation? I am not up on all the "jargon" for Blackberries, just looking for a solution. Thanks in advance.

There are several ways you can set up your BB to receive your e-mail. One of them is BES. Shocked Cingular told you not to get one if you don't have a BES.

Do you current have Outlook with Exchange? If so, you can use the BlackBerry Desktop Redirector - which has some serious shortcomings.

If not, can you have your work e-mail forwarded to your BlackBerry? Check with your IS department on that.

Thanks for the direction. I will not have everything set up with my new job for about a week. I will get with my new IT dept and see what they can do. I also thought it was quite odd that the rep at the Cingular store told me that. Did not make any sense. Thanks again.
