Hello Guys,

I'm looking for a help from you guys regarding my blackberry 8100 pearl. It got wet, so I opened it and kept it in sun for 2-3 days. After inserting battery (2-3 days later) everything else works fine except signal issue. I called Tmobile but they were not able to help. Unfortunately my phone is out of warranty. Initially, I thought the problem was with sim card. But my sim card works fine on my other tmobile motorola phone.

Any help to get back my phone would be appreciated.

Water damage is the killer of all, it will do funny things to a pc board. Sometimes even drying it out will not help. Its good to get other opinions but I think its quite possibly done.

Since it was a soapy water (laundry), i'm thinking I may have to do some cleanup....specially sim card contacts on phone (not on SIM card).

Any suggestions?

I have had a lot of success dealing with wet electronics using rubbing alcohol. From my son's toy firetruck left out in the rain to my audio switcher in the car that my son spilled juice all over (note the trend!).

In both cases, I opened the devices up and thoroughly cleaned the circuit boards and all connections using rubbing alcohol. I even fully submerged the audio switcher's board in alcohol. Then I shake out the boards to get off any excess alcohol and let them sit out to dry. Left out in the sun it should only take a few hours. You can take a hairdryer to them to speed the process. Just make sure that all the little crevices and such are dried out before powering up.

In both cases everything went back to normal after the cleaning.

Your mileage may vary....and you try this at your own risk (though, you are already out of warranty and have a broken phone...so what's to lose???)
