how many devices..whats the mail server environment

if say upto 50 then go with min of 2.4 ghz xeon processor, 1gb of RAM, and 80gb disc space. Should do nicely. Memory is your friend in BES land, if in doubt add more as things like attachment service use it up. Make sure the BES is installed on the same lan as Exchange server too.

I'm using BES 4.1 that's installed on the same server as Exchange 2003, what type of hardware should I have in it?

There will only be between 3-5 blackberries.

I have 60 users, was only going to be 6. First only the SR staff, now everyone has one.

I'd highly recommend standalone hardware. The requirements listed for 0-100 users, IMO, are greatly overstated. RAM is your friend, and depending on your logging requirements, disk space as well...

I am running on a P3 800Mhz with 2GB RAM. Processor utilization is <5% at any given time, Mem usages (including Pages I/O) isn't worth mentioning.

That said, if you call for support because something goes wrong, be prepared to get hung up on for not having the minimum hardware requirements.

I also will say, I don't know what is going to happen with Unified Messaging, I'll likely have to upgrade said hardware, but it's gotten us almost 5 years...

Just another thing to note... hardware, these days, is REALLY cheap. For any decent size rollout, I wouldn't suggest anything less than a Xeon-class processor with 2-3GB of RAM.

Although.... I have seen instances where there is Exchange,DC,Fileserver,SQL and BES with 50 users running on a PII 400 with 384MB of RAM without a hitch. Slow as all hell but it did work.

1 gig / 500 users is the general consensus I would say.

If I had 500 users, I'd think I'd be able to afford more than 1GB of RAM, especially if I was offering MDS, LCS, attachment processing, etc. for all users. 1GB would not be sufficient, by any means, with the possible exception of lab testing by RIM for lowest cost analysis.
