Have you tried manually syncing the device to their desktop email client using the manager?

No. I was thinking this was a setting on his end, not mine

I think it works with a cable sync, but definately not wirelessly.

Not sure then, I haven't played with it too much yet, but I'll pluck around with it sometime this week. It might, however, work differently in groupwise than exchange or domino though.
