Default Gmail or Yahoo (Plus) ?

Please Login to Remove!

As a fairly new Blackberry user (Curve 8310 with AT&T), I will likely be dumping my Comcast email soon. I have decided to start using as my primary email one of the major web based email systems - Google Mail (Gmail) or Yahoo Mail (Plus).

I already have emails with both of these (and I don't mind spending $20 a year for the Plus version of Yahoo, so that isn't a difference maker).

I would like to know the advantages and disadvantages of Yahoo (Plus) and Gmail. I use BIS and am using POP at the moment, but would like to try going with an IMAP system, although that isn't vital.

Any comments on which of the two, Gmail or Yahoo (Plus), is better to make my primary email would be appreciated.

My wife uses Yahoo, while I am using Gmail...yes, it is a mixed marriage.

She likes hers and I likes mine. We both use them for personal emails.

She does tend to get a lot more spam than I do...I rarely get any.

Plus she (we) have to pay for a service for her that I get for free from Google!

As I know, yahoo plus doesn't allow you create custom email list.

I hope that I'm wrong but back to the year 2005/2006 when my company had decided where we host our email on yahoo or google, we did try both and finally we had chosen google because gmail allows us create custom email list.

From what I understand, MSFT is taking their offer to the shareholders, cutting out the board of Yahoo...

Should get interesting...

MSFT would never do anything like that.....they arent a company that takes what they want (or buys in most cases) at all

I have Yahoo and I think it works great, I don't get any spam on my BB, I mean never. The sync, email that is, is instant, I get my mail on my BB before my computer. When I move something from my inbox to my read folder, one I made, it gets move off my BB instantly and vice versa. To me it's worth the 19.99 a month.

Default Yahoo Plus cost......

I think that is $19.99 a YEAR for Yahoo Plus, not per month.

Ya my bad mis-typing. But it's well worth it. I have never had a problem with it. When there is a problem it's always been BB.

You'll certainly get lots more junk mail with Yahoo. I think gmail's filter is best in industry. Also, with Yahoo's free service, you'll never be able to export your contacts or mails. Not so with gmail.

Gmail's filtering, searching, and labeling are brilliant. It takes just a bit of getting used to but is tremendously powerful.

I have Yahoo Classic email. I don't pay a dime for it and it works great. All spam goes in the yahoo bulk folder and never reaches my device.

I am using both Yahoo and Gtalk but honestly i would like to stick with Gtalk, light and preety user friendly. Yahoo is good but it takes time to load the things.

Not quite correct. Even with Yahoo's free account, you can export contacts. I just did it a while ago.

I love the Gmail interface and I do think Gmail is better at Spam, so that's what I use. However, with Yahoo, you can natively sync contacts, calendar and notes just using the BB Desktop manager.

It comes down to personal preference & what works for you.
