Cool How To: Install Philips Mobile PhoneTools

Please Login to Remove!

OK... finally I got Philips Mobile PhoneTools to work. I made a simple animated GIF to show how to install it.

First, download the software:
http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/c/c...p2_ics_eng.zip

Now watch this:

The start of my collection (I'll probably start up a WAP site):

And here's more info on the ADPCM format and software:

The things we must go through for ringtones.. sheesh.

Anyhoo, enjoy!

Thumbs up Perfect timing

That was perfect timing! Only yesterday I managed to get one of the other phone profiles going, and it didn't include the multimedia stuff. I couldn't figure out which configuration file to edit to change things, so I reinstalled and was going to start brute-forcing it, trying one after another until I got it. So you just saved me (and a lot of others) quite a few hours of hassle! Thanks very much.

No problem. I'm just glad I could get this working before my 14 day trial was up. I'm feeling a lot better about the phone now. You gotta have ringtones, right? I dunno, I guess I like to make my own stuff too.. themes are down the road.

I would also like to thank VR6 and the discussion here:
http://www.blackberryforums.com/show...ighlight=ADPCM

Without that I might have tried a few 20 different installs myself.

OK, I followed your directions and at the point where it searches for the phone, I select BlueTooth and it prompts me for only 3 choices (those with BT=1 in the detect.inf file). When it times out on the device detection it only gives me instructions on how to configure the phone to be discovered. It will never let me get to the point of specifying a "dummy" phone. I downloaded the files from the link you provided.

When I uninstalled, I didn't delete the directory or anything. I just uninstalled and installed the software above. Any suggestions?

What you are describing doesn't sound like anything I've experienced. I would suggest uninstalling, deleting everything in the Program Files directory for the Mobile Phone Tools.. and reinstall. Try it again following exactly as above.

The only other difference may be the fact that I do not have any BlueTooth networking cards or access points in my computer. Do you? Other than that I have no other suggestions.

Hope you get it working.. to be honest the whole process of converting ringtones into ADCPM format is crappy at best. I really wish my phone just supported MP3's.

Yes I had the same problem. In order to get the Phone Setup Wizard to go to manual control, you have to confuse it a bit. Instead of clicking on the Bluetooth option as recommended above, click on USB, connect your bbery to the USB jack and wait for the software to time out. It will then give you the manual configuration screens shown in the above -magnificent- demo. Note that this appears to work only on a fresh install.
