I called the store, drove there, spent 20 minutes (salesman moved my contacts from my 736 to 7100i) and out the door - waa laa

just got my 7100i (nextel) last week. I like the phone it is so much better than my old i530 (can you even compare the two?). I also got "pocket mac" to merge the info from my Mac to my 7100i it works great except I lost PIN's I guess iCal does not have a place for them. Comparing my 7100i to my friends 75?? the 75?? feels allot more rugged so I got the replacement insurance. I am a firefighter, chimney sweep, and high school track coach so I am sure it is just a matter of time till I break it.

I would like to be able to connect my ibook to the phone and get on line. If anyone can tell me how to do this I would greatly appreciate it.

Actually I got for $149.99 today. My wifey works for Waste Management and they get ridiculous deals on everything.

Just got approval from my boss to test five users (includes him of course) on the 7100I. Not sure how long it will take that department to get them purchased and assigned, but I am looking forward to it.

Default The Unofficial 7100i Review Thread...

I recently upgraded my BB from Nextel's 7520 to 7100i and was initially thrilled by the size, brilliance of color etc but now I am frustrated.

Lookup. A very serious issue here. Consider a group email list available on exchange called zzctc.PaginationSupport If you try to lookup this mail list (since group lists cannot be stored on blackberry contact list), even though I enter zzctc.pagi (pay attention to the "." after ctc) yet the blackberry attempts to look for "zzctc pagi". Geez!!! why is it removing the period and naturally it does not find any address like that on the exchange. This sucks!!!! Not only this if you look for say pagination, it picks up weird email address of someone who does not even have a name like pagination. There is something very seriously wrong here. I will have to test this functionality on a 7105. This is literally a show stopper, wonder how RIM never caught this.

The contact lookup is horrible. I was looking up an airlines number which existed in my contacts and previously on 7520 (assuming it's South West Airlines) whether I type "South", "West" or "Air" either way I would be able to lookup the address not anymore. This is irritating. I had a colleague called Augustus and to lookup his name I had to press A and then use the mouse to scroll down because the contacts list was not looking it. First I entered a then au and the name was lost (some other were displayed) and lastly when I entered aug it stated *No Addresses* This just sounds impossible to believe. So I called Nextel and they asked me to reinstall OS.

Nothing corresponding to ALT-CAP-H for help and ALT-LGLG at least not that I know of.

ALT-CAP-DEL was used for soft resetting the Blackberry. Can't believe they replaced it with profile modification. If I press ALT-CAP-DEL it changes the profile to Vibrate. Who would ever think of this?

Under messages the old 7520 blackberry supported the letter "q". If you enter q on a name it would tell you the email address, not any more.

BlackBerry Newbie <<---- that says it all. i dont have any of the problems you are having. yes the key combos dont work, ON ANY of the smaller form factor phones. we all knew that because the 7100's had been out for a long time already.

I brought this thread back up, because now that i have my 7100i since early October, i would like to give another review.
Yes there are the small bugs that many of us have experienced, and the lack of the "real" ringtones that many are waiting for, BUT unless Nextel puts out an 8700 series phone i would not give up my 7100i. i think it is a great phone.
one suggestion i would make to RIM for the next software release. have an option in the custom wordlist to only learn words from messages that i write and not from all recieved. too much spam comes in and i find myself having to spend time deleting words in the list or erasing it entirely. or if i delete a message within five seconds, do not learn the words.

just my two cents.

Well I thought I should repay back with 1 cent for your 2 pennies LOL. The issues described you did not face because indeed your blackberry did not have them. My blackberry when it was reinstalled with the latest OS that was downloaded from the blackberry's website did the trick and gracefully I am not facing these problems now either however the shortcuts don't work.

I don't get the whole "ringtones" phenomenom. Why would anyone pay for more noise? I keep mine on vibrate all day at work, unlike the other ass..oles in the department. When I'm in the car, the regular good old phone ring is fine with me. I'm not trying to entertain or impress anyone. I just don't get it.....

Oh yeah, I'm old......

I have a user that has a 7100i and wants to transfer his contacts to a new 7100i. Is that possible and if so how can I do that?
