Default 8800 Due In Stores Today...Best Deal(s)? Anyone Want to Combine Orders?

Please Login to Remove!

I am anticipating getting an 8800 with Cingular activation. The local Cingular store is expecting arrival today or tomorrow. Any alternative agents out there who would be providing a better deal than the Cingular store direct prices?

Anyone want to combine orders for negotiating leverage?

Do you have the contact info for your local store? Mine says they don't even know when they're getting them.

Whazzat? Both my stores say 2/21 at best. NYTimes says the 21st. Web page says 21st. RIM says 21st. Where's your store located? Must have special strings to pull! Or do your Cingular guys not know what they're talking about (my best guess).

InfoWorld Tech Watch | InfoWorld | BlackBerry 8800 to restore RIM thunder? | February 12, 2007 06:31 PM | By Mike Barton

BlackBerry 8800 to restore RIM thunder?

RIM introduced on Monday the successor to its popular 8700 line, the trendy, but still business-minded 8800.

Our sister publication, Macworld, writes of the new phone:

The 8800 will debut later this month in North America through AT&T, the same carrier that will carry Apple?s iPhone in June, starting at $299 with a two-year service commitment. It?s also coming to Canada from Rogers Wireless.
Like the 8700, the 8800 features a full QWERTY keyboard and 320 x 240 pixel color LCD display. Like the Pearl, the 8800 features a trackball navigation system. It also sports a built-in media player and microSD memory slot for storage of music and videos.

The media player supports MP3 and unprotected AAC music files; it can also display MPEG-4 and H.263 video content. The phone supports polyphonic, MP3 and MIDI ringtones.

Okay, so RIM was reading my and obviously countless others' minds about staying competitive with styling and multimedia features now that Microsoft Direct Push leveled the push e-mail playing field for newer Palm and Windows Mobile devices. (See our 3GSM World Congress special report for more on Windows Mobile 6 and its Direct Push tech.)

It's no iPhone on style, but it takes some notes. But my Palm Treo 7100p may be looking old school but it's sporting EV-DO; not found on this GSM/EDGE device, to be sold by AT&T (formerly Cingular). And the iPhone is not out for months and it to does not harness Cingular's HSDPA high-speed cellular network.

What gives, RIM and Apple? Looks ain't all that if your'e stuck on a pokey EDGE network.

Sorry but I think you are full of it!

Cingular does not ship them to the stores until they are ready to release, maybe a day early or so but not a week. If this were so, someone would have one now! They would also be on eBay with pictures of them in the box. How many 8800 Cingular boxes have YOU seen!

I bet not!

I don't think the stores will see them until after next weeks rollout in NY and SF.

You must understand that the people you are talking to do not have any clue when the 8800 is going to be released. Most you talk to today do not even know what an 8800 is!

These people want you to buy what they have today so they can make their quota. Phone are not fun to them, it is their job!

The store people will not know till they arrive and have their little meeting about the new device. This will not happen till likely the 22nd. Until then these people just put in their 8 hours and collect their paycheck!

That is so true. A little off topic but last night I walked into a Verizon store to get the new USB modems they have. I asked, "Do you have the new USB modem?". The guys says, "Hold on, let me check". Comes back (after asking someone else and says, "You have to call Verizon Residential, we don't carry those type of modems." I said, "Yes, you do. They're just like the PCMCIA card modems." Complete blank look on his face. I said, "If you don't know what I'm talking about then you don't have them. Thanks."

The same thing happens when asking about phones. I'm amazed when someone actually knows what I'm talking about with a new phone.
