Default OS: 8900 5.0.0.1385/5.0.0.822 (East Asia Languages)

Please Login to Remove!

Software For BlackBerry® Curve (TM) 8900 smartphone

BlackBerry Handheld Software v5.0.0.1385 (EastAsia)

Package Version: 5.0.0.1385
Consisting of:

* Applications: 5.0.0.822
* Software Platform: 5.2.0.76
* File name: 8900jEastAsia_PBr5.0.0_rel1385_PL5.2.0.76_A5.0.0.8 22_Hutchison.exe
* File size: 126.72MB

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...2BAA6EBC8B872D

Instructions to install on ANY 8900 from ANY CARRIER.

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

For the previous OS version:

Has anyone tried this? What changes over v5.0.0.1168/5.0.0.681 are there?

Default changes I've noticed

-many of the memory leaks from 681 seem to be fixed making it much more responsive, though I still find bbm pauses randomly at times while I'm typing which is frustrating.
-more options and settings in the camera app. I have had the app pause and 'black screen' a few times, and it doesn't always seem to want to take a picture.
-on uma I've noticed its not smoothly switching from wifi to gsm connection for phone calls as it drops calls whenever I'm on the phone and leave my house
-enterprise activation has an 'activation server address:' option field that I never noticed before.

Put this on one of my 8900s and it seems to be running well with no issues that I can see after 48hrs.

Whoa, this is scary. I just installed this and set up everything, rebooted, it worked fine, and then finally upgraded google maps from v3 to v4 and the phone just did not turn back on after the upgrade reboot.. The red light came on, stayed on for 3-4 seconds, went back off and the phone stayed that way until I hit the On button, at which point it would do the same red light and go off. I just did a battery pull, finally the BB came back on.
I thought I messed up my wife's phone!

Does anybody know if you are required to have a data plan for the upgrade? Even if you already have version 5.0 on it?

Is there another source for this download. I am presently in a coffee shop using wifi and have excellent reception, but the download keeps falling out and stalling. It will take about 2 hours at this rate.

Ok Team - I'm stuck in the ATT splash start-up screen and its been like that for an hour...actually longer. So any ideas? I tried rebooting the battery and nothing. I'm trying to reload the software to see if it works but nothing either. Any ideas?

Not at all. Actually, its just been the opposite. I've noticed a real quickness in my phone since the update.

Oh, I had something like that lately. Try holding down the power button, plugging it to the wall outlet, battery pull. anything or all at once. It can be cured. Don't worry.^_^

I had the almost same thing happen to me, except it was a theme I downloaded. After 5 battery pulls (I was at work), after I got home and did another battery pull to no avail, I pulled the battery again. But instead of just putting the battery back in, I first plugged it in to my laptop with the DM already running, and everything was fine after that.
I have done that twice now (with the blinking light of death and the white screen), and both times it worked.

If you already have OS 5, then you shouldn't need a data plan to upgrade.
