BlackBerry Pearl 3G drops QWERTY keys | The Sun |Fun|Gizmo

WHEN I met the people from RIM a few months ago - they make BlackBerry devices - I said: "Wouldn't it be a good idea to make one with normal mobile phone keys."
And here it is, the BLACKBERRY PEARL 3G.

Of course, I doubt I can take any credit at all but it's such an obvious idea, it's a wonder it has taken them this long to produce such a handset.

After all, millions of people type out long text messages every day so why couldn't they do the same with emails.

Putting it in the Pearl though is inspired and could really expand BlackBerry's reach.

People are comfortable with candy bar shaped devices, they are comfortable with text typing and now they can be comfortable with the sort of superb email delivery you can get on a BB.

The 3G is also the smallest BlackBerry smartphone yet and comes with Wi-Fi, GPS and a 3.2 megapixel camera. There's also the ace optical trackpad rather than the sticking ball.

But, if you prefer a QWERTY, there is one of them too, with the 9100 model having a 20-key condensed keyboard.

When it launches in May though, our advice is to check out this 9105 model. It'll keep you connected and probably drive your friends and relatives mad with your constant need for communication. They're not called CrackBerrys for nothing.

The author of this article needs to get his facts straight before writing such an article. The Pearl has been around for many years. This is not a new design from RIM

All it is is a Pearl that looks different, a trackpad and 3g. Nothing spectacular. But i do like the way it looks

It's the T9 keypad that's new. Aimed for the European and Asian markets. The US won't get the 9105 - at least not at the moment which if fine with me, I want the 9100 suretype QWERTY keyboard.

BTW, this needs to be moved to the 9100 Device Specific group since this thing has been long out of the rumor mill. Both the 9100 and 9105 were officially announced by Blackberry at the WES and on their site.
