Default Micro SD Card enabled WLAN from KDDI?

Please Login to Remove!

Simple question. Does the below technology allow me to slot a Micro-SD Card into a 8707v, 8800 or 8310 and gain a WiFi access? Does any body know any more about this technology?

Please do not double post. One is enough. Previous thread closed.

Only if the SD card slot in external. Most of the models you mentioned have the SD slot inside the back cover. Does the 8707 even have an SD slot?

So basically this is not going to work on a 8800 or a 8310 but it might possibly on later Blackberries.

Maybe. I would make sure it has been tested and shown to work on a BB. My guess is there would need to be some app or software to make it work on any device. Couldn't just drop it in and expect it to work right away.

In other words, don't get your hopes up. Plus most of the newer devices coming out have WiFi I think.

The other BIG issue is a mater of drivers. The SDCard interface was designed for storage. You can do other things with them, I had a Palm that could use a Bluetooth SDCard many years ago, but the device has to have the software to drive that functionality over the SDCard interface.

The demonstration laptop seems to be running Windows XP.

Aw, doubled with Dubdub...

The card might have that functionality in the feature, but something on the BlackBerry must tell it how to interface with the card. Unless they make specific drivers it won't work. And with the security features RIM has built into the BB SD Cards I doubt we will see this..

Besides by the time this does get released more (newly released) BB's should have wifi already

Sorry about the double post - think I got the question out better on the second attempt however and no the 8707v does not have an SD slot.

I think we are all experiencing a trickle down effect from the Japanese market. But since many of the new models have wifi anyway it may be past its sell by date by the time it is available. Still if it puts pressure on RIM and on the carriers to allow for wifi solutions and to provision for it in firmware and in the devices it may be a very positive development.
