Default OS: 9700 5.0.0.541/5.0.0.344 (EastAsian + English)

Please Login to Remove!

Software For BlackBerry® Bold (TM) 9700 smartphone

BlackBerry Handheld Software v5.0.0.541 (EastAsia)

Package Version: 5.0.0.541
Consisting of:

* Applications: 5.0.0.344
* Software Platform: 5.1.0.96
* File name: 9700EastAsia_PBr5.0.0_rel541_PL5.1.0.96_A5.0.0.344 _Bell_Mobility_Inc.exe
* File size: 142.56MB

Download HERE

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the AppLoader says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

The OS is carrier independant.
You can load any carriers OS to a device.
As long as that OS is made for the device you're trying to load it on to.

Question on this. If I install this onto a Bell 9700, is there any advantage to deleting the vendor.xml file?

Can I get any of the other carriers themes by doing so?

The standard Bell theme is really, really blah....

Deleting Vendor.XML has nothing to do with unlocking themes. Deleting Vendor.XML allows you to put an OS released by one vendor onto a BB branded by another. That's it.

Hi

Installed 5.00.344 this morning. I'm new to Blackberries, it seemed to go okay. The only thing that's really come up so far is my incoming SMS messages started to only display the numbers, no names. If I enter the message, the menu is linked to the proper contact.

Poked around the interweb for a while and everything seemed to point out SmartDial as the problem. Changing it didn't do much.

Turned out the problem was that I had entered all my contact numbers as 123 456 7890, with spaces for legibility. It worked fine in the previous OS, (sorry, didn't check the version before I updated, so I have no idea what it shipped with. ). This version choked. When I removed the spaces from the contact number, the name popped right up in the SMS thread.

I also paired it with a Parrot CK3200 today, so I'm not sure which one caused the issue... Kinda leaning toward the software, though. Has anyone else seen this?

Wonders if there's much difference in this OS as opposed to 5.0.0.330

I have installed this successfully in my Rogers 9700. Chinese font support and input work fine but even though I have Japanese font support and input enabled, I can only read Japanese but cannot input in japanese...couldn't see that option in my BB. Anyone has a solution to this?

I have the AT&T 9700 with software 5.0.296, when I downloaded the above software and try to install I get this message: THE BLACKBERRY DESKTOP SOFTWARE DOES NOT HAVE BLACKBERRY DEVICE SOFTWARE FOR THAT DEVICE THAT YOU HAVE CONNECTED TO THE COMPUTER. I have the desktop 5.0 I unistalled and re-installed both my desktop and the new device software from above twice already. I dont know what else to do. Any ideas?

Sounds like you did not remove vendor.xml; Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
