Software For BlackBerry® Storm 2 (TM) 9550 smartphone

BlackBerry Handheld Software v5.0.0.1612 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 5.0.0.1612
Consisting of:

* Applications: 5.0.0.983
* Software Platform: 4.2.0.427
* File name: 9550AMEA_PBr5.0.0_rel1612_PL4.2.0.427_A5.0.0.983_I nland_Cellular.exe
* File size: 120.86MB

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Download OS here: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...A6F0EBC0F258A8

Instructions for installing either version on ANY carrier's 9550:

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

I can't believe that no one has installed this yet!!! Usually people are all over new OSes and even OS leaks. Must be a holiday in the US.

Sorry for the delay, I installed and wanted to give it some time to see... nothing bad here, and I can say I would recommend the upgrade. It does fix the robotic voice issue (so far, I want to test it on a few other calls this morning).

You say it has fixed the robotic voice but truthfully I don't know what that is and I am a Verizon Storm 2 (9550) user. What I would like to know if it fixed the random "buzz" I get during phone conversations particulary when both of us try to speak at the same time.

Just finished the upgrade. Took 42 minutes. Will test the phone calling this afternoon.

Would greatly appreciate your response on the "buzz". Also, did you just install over existing OS or did you do a wipe?

Just a standard install over top of the last OS. Did not want to reinstall all my apps. In regards to the "buzz" problem, I have never had this problem. Most of my problems were solved with the last 5.0.0.1206(713) OS. What I did do first was a battery pull before doing the upgrade.

Nah... for me it is just really a pain to re-adjust everything after loading a new OS. Unless you or JSanders completely RAVES about this version, I personally am going to stick with what is working... for me: .713

I am pretty happy about this OS. The calls are crisp and the memory seems pretty stable. Mind you it has only been 24 hours. What I really want is OS 6 but the chances that is going to happen for the Strom2 is slim to none.

Only glitch I found is that BBM went back to 5.0 so I had to reinstall 5.0.1.41 from the app store.

Default Installation Problems

I installed new OS on my 9550 and have 2 significant issues.

1) When I open DM 6 and move to applications nothing happens. It does not show the applications installed.

2) When I try to sync with Outlook DM 6 shows address book not installed. I tried to configure it to add address book but no luck. If I look at the 9550 it shows that I have 2532 contacts but when I look at the actually contacts there is only 1 contact and it is repeated 2532 times.

My carrier is Verizon and I delelted the vendor.xml file. Do I need to somehow add it back in

Please help.

Unfortunately I don't use DM6 to sync my stuff. I use Astrasync to sync my contacts and calendar on my Hosted Exchange with my Storm2. No BES for me either. I haven't needed DM6 since I got Hosted Exchange and Astrasync.

Okay don't you use DM 6 to update your applications? My big issue is getting address book to be loaded I have my data safe and can reinstall.

I just download apps from the app store OTA. You should be able to do a one way sync: Outlook==>Storm2 in DM6.

I can not do a one way sync because DM 6 thinks that address book is not installed. I reinstalled DM6 and now when I go to application my phone application do show but strangely onlu my added apps but none of the normal stuff like core applications, task, address book etc.

Please advise how to proceed.

I spent about 5 hours on line with RIM (I am not exaggerating) and the only thing that finally got me up and running okay was reseting to factory conditions (which actually still left me with 983 installed KB18998-How to reset the BlackBerry smartphone to factory defaults

I know this sounds strange but since I have upgraded to 983 I am having trouble syncing with DM 6 (BIS not Exchange server).

Is anyone else experiencing problems in syncing this way with the upgrade?

OK, I re-installed BBM earlier tonight from app world and when I was prompted for reboot I did and my Storm2 got stuck in a reboot loop for about 5 minutes. Red LED with hour glass for a few seconds then black screen then reboot. It did this for about 5 minutes until the Blackberry screen came on with the progress bar. WTF!!!! then just 10 minutes ago I installed version 1.5 of LinkedIn. Exact same thing happened. WTF again!!!!

So much for the new OS. If this keeps up I am going back to 1206/713
