Default TMO Curve- Anyone have luck connecting to your own router?

Please Login to Remove!

I just got my curve, went through the WiFi set up. I am getting a connection error though. I put my correct WEP key, and id's Curve Mac address to access my own router. Do I need to set something further on my Curve or perhaps router? My laptop picks up my Wifi without a problem but Curve won't. Help.
Thanks

I tried connecting to mine but no dice. It saw my network and tried to connect to it then it suddenly rebooted. But I'm on wireless "n" so I'm wondering if that's got something to do with it.

Do you have a WEP key or any other type of protection on the wireless network (please say yes).

Did you enter the WEP key?

The 8320 works fine on my home router with 128 bit WEP. Also the Continental President's Club, our office visitor's wireless, Starbucks and I was just at a Borders. All work fine.

Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.50 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/4.0.8993/58; U; en))

You need to have certain udp ports open. This is how the wifi connects, it is trying to create a uma and data connection. Even if you do not want to use the hotspot at home service you will have to open the ports for the h@h. If the curve sees ANY resistance to either the uma or data half of the wifi connection it will not properly connect. Call tmo cust care and transfer to the h@h department to get the port #s since I don't remember them. Hope this helps.

yeah i'm having some issues too. i go from 0-1 bars in my room, 2 bars max in the same room as the router, and on my UMA on my bb, sometimes it says connected, and sometimes it says:
Error code: J0013.4
status: failed to connect. location unknown.

i need to open certain ports of my router? anyone have the h@h dept number handy? thanks.

PORTS are not required to initially associate/connect to the router.

Once the Wi-Fi connection is established.. THEN you may need to worry about ports.

PS: I noticed a problem when going from my 8800 to Curve and using the Desktop Manager to backup from the 8800 and restore to the Curve... It prevented my making a UMA connection, BUT I could still associate/connect to my Wi-Fi Router.

The same thing happened to me. It connected fine to a UMA connection but after I did the backup and restore from my Pearl to Curve I couldnt get a UMA connection. I'm doing a "wipe" and starting over without the restore feature to see if it works.

My curve hasn't had any problems connecting to WiFi (WPA2), but I can't get a connection to the UMA stuff. I'm on hold right now with T-Mobile tech support and I'm hopefully going to get this resolved. So far what they've told me that I need to disable wifi and then re-enable it twice in a row, and that I need to have ports 4500 and 500 open (UDP for both) in order to connect and make calls over wifi. We'll see if it works. The tier-2 person I'm talking to can't get her curve to connect either, so hopefully its a problem with their UMA stuff and they just have to flick a switch on their end.

Did you use Desktop Manager to backup your data from old Blackberry, and restore to Curve? If so, that may be your problem...

My issue must be caused by something else, then. My home router is WPA / wireless "n". Every time I enter my password to access my home network, my phone completely reboots. The last time I tried it I had to do a battery pull to turn it back on. :(

Guess we'll see what happens once the 8320 is official come Monday. I'm too afraid of what will happen to the phone if I try again...

Yeah, that's not related to the "restore" issue. Do you have "n-only" selected in your router's settings? You might try turning off N and security to troubleshoot.

Mine is working fine now after I did a wipe and started fresh instead of doing the backup and restore. UMA is pretty cool

One thing I'm doing is turning off GSM/EDGE at home or work. I figure it will reduce battery usage. Or does the BlackBerry automatically turn off EDGE when UMA is enabled?

Once I did a restore I lost UMA service. Seems to be a bug.
