Default How do I browse the web on my Curve using only Wi-Fi and NOT the mobile network?

Please Login to Remove!

I just bought an unlocked Curve 8320, which has Wi-Fi. I do not have a data plan, and do not want one, which is why I got the Curve with built-in Wi-Fi. I want to be able to browse the web, use email (like the gmail app), use the facebook app, etc, WITHOUT any sort of data plan and without racking up charges on my phone bill because I do NOT have a data plan. I would like to think that RIM wouldn't include Wi-Fi on this blackberry if you never actually used it. How do I browse the web, etc using ONLY Wi-Fi on my new Curve? Thanks in advance!

You need a data plan. The carrier's are making it mandatory.

facebook app will NOT work without a blackberry data plan.
No way around that, it won't work. Its a RIM application, and RIM require you have a blackberry data plan to use their apps.

Whether or not an app work with straight WiFi is up to the app developer. The BB OS provides multiple network APIs. As for RIM developed apps, they will always use the cell network for Internet access. Other apps such as Opera Mini offer the option and default to raw sockets for Internet access and thus can function off only the WiFi link. Google based apps (mail, sync, maps, voice), all the RIM developed Instant Messaging, and Facebook, are all cell network only apps. You can facebook via the mobile website in Opera though (m.facebook.com).

You can use Opera Mini for web browsing and LogicMail for mail access if all you have is WiFi, however you will need to download those apps on your computer and push them to the phone via the desktop manager. The Pandora radio app ca go via WiFi or cell.

Wirelessly posted (The Dacia Sandero of data plan)

By default, if wifi is available the device will use that. Since you don't have a data plan, you shouldn't be able to browse over the mobile network.

I didn't have a data plan when I first got my phone, used wifi all the time, and never any extra charges.

I dont know what half of you are talking about... Yes, the carriers require Blackberrys to be sold with data plans, however, I know for sure that you can cancel the data plan at any time and just pay for your standard phone plan. How do I know this? Because I did it. T Mobile requires you to buy the BB with a data plan, but i only signed up for one month of it, and was still able to buy my 8520. But now that my data plan is over, i can still use Facebook and Google maps with only wifi, WITHOUT a data plan, and without any extra charges on my phone bill.

Also, before my 8520, I had a Curve 8320, no data plan at any time (Tmobile didnt require one at the time i bought it), and I was able to the Facebook application over wifi, as well as BB App World, with no extra charges to my phone bill.
