Default Mic not working on 8700

I have just replaced the lens on my 8700 , but when i put it back together the mic is not working and no one can hear me speak. does anyone have any detailed pictures of how the mic should sit in the housing or ideas why its not working ?

well make sure you didn't damage the 2 leads coming out of it (yes they are very tiny and almost like springs).

it shouldn't matter how its positioned as long as its in its hole in the housing. sometimes just re-assembling it lines up the contacts and it works. good luck and if nothing works you may have damaged the mic, and will need a replacement.

they are worth maybe 50 cents buy really may be hard to find them.

I have a 8700c and prying on the outsude of the unit did not work. I had to gently pry inside of the battery case.

actually if you take the middle of the case out you can see the only thing holding it is two tabs in the middle. So just stab a flat head screw driver and just push inwards, it'll free the tab. It's very easy. It wont dmg anything and even if you do it's gonna be in the tab so you cant even see it

Thanks so much for this. Another successful disassembly/reassembly. Now I have a dust-free screen, and my 'w' key no longer sticks! My sticker is white, and great tip about putting the flat-head screwdriver into the slots in the middle of the case and push inwards. Worked a charm.

I really wish I had latex gloves. I kept getting fingerprints on the screen while trying to reassemble. Keep a microfiber cloth handy if you don't have latex!

The only down side to this exercise is that now I'm aware of some creaks when I squeeze the case that I know were previously there, and I was just happily not noticing. It's like seeing spinach in someone's teeth...once you realize it's there, you can no longer NOT notice it...

By the way, many of my phones have had wet water things turn red. THEY NEVER GOT WET!!! But I live in new orleans where it is vry humid and I think maybe that has someting to do with it. I am worried about this 8703e i just got 30 days ago b/c I dont have a sticker. I guess it was a screw up at the factory but I dont know if they will believe me. Oh well.

This red sticker seems very common in the 8700g. All my friends have the 'red patch'. My one friend who has a cingular 8700c is the only one without the red. It's funny i used my 7100t in all the same situation and the patch is still white. In fact I'm currently using it and it's still good. I think it's a defect in the 8700g or poor placement of the patch as I never got my 8700g wet. My friends haven't either. I think it's a defect or a conspiracy by tmobile to void our warranties.

Default Where to purchase new 8700c housing

Thought I'd pass along a success on replacing the entire 8700c housing. I had my BB for a year without ever dropping it, then within a week, forgot to buckle it back in my belt case and had it crash on the sidewalk two times!

For $35 shipped, I picked up the entire housing at Cellular Nationwide Network. They also sell the individual parts (speaker, lens with or without Cingular logo).

I received the casing about a week after ordering (shipped from Hong Kong). It was securely packaged, and had all the original protective film over the lens (both inside around the gasket as well as on the outside). Manufacturing marks are identical to the original case, so it is indeed an OEM case.

The only omission to the instructions on this thread are to transfer the speaker and microphone from the front part of the housing. The microphone just needs to be gently pried up from the edge, and presses right down in the new housing.

Using latex gloves will ensure you don't get any smudges or dust on the electronics, and make sure you don't use too small a screwdriver to pry the rear clips during removal.

My new housing actually gives me a better overall fit than the original (old one had some creaking on teh upper right corner, though that might have been fixed by tightening the screw for that area).

Default Thanks

Thanks for the helpful guide! Hope I never need to use it, but knowing how many times I usually drop my phones, I've added it as a bookmark
