Default Using AT&T SIM with Cingular Blackberry

Please Login to Remove!

I've had AT&T wireless for at least 6 years and had one of the early GSM plans. Got a great deal on unlimited minutes as one of the early adopters.

Recently I got a cingular blackberry thru work. Unfortunately my company will pay for blackberry service but not for cell phone.

I tried to put the AT&T sim in the cingular blackberry. The phone would work but it said "refused data connection".

Is there a way I can use the AT&T Sim in the Cingular blackberry and have both the phone and data (email, web) functions work?

Thanks.

You'd need to add an enterprise BlackBerry Data Plan to your own account with the AT&T SIM card in order to get voice and data using your SIM.

Obviously, this would result in you paying for your own data, and probably angering your IT staff, since they'd also know that you've switched SIM cards in a company-owned device.

Man, I envy you for having that $100 unlimited minutes plan. When that plan first came out, I thought that was ridiculously expensive. But know, that plan is a steal.

Your problem most likely is that AT&T sim is still CDMA and not GSM. Go to a AT&T store and have them replace your sim. IIRC, it cost $20 for the sim.

That usally just means that your account is not correctly configured for BB service. I am surprised it worked. Cingular broke the SIM compatibility when they bought AT&T wireless (you had to get a new SIM card), and I am told the new AT&T is breaking it again.

AT&T was never CDMA, and there is no such thing as a CDMA SIM card.
Additionally, replacing the SIM will be pointless unless the user adds a BlackBerry Data Plan to it, which I mentioned earlier in the thread.

From my experiences, they won't add data to an old AT&T SIM. You'll have to be assimilated!
