From what I hear it is the same weak vibration. I have no problems with mine on the 8830, but I did not have a 8703 before.

I set mines to vibrate for the first time this morning and it was alot stronger than my 8703e, but the case maybe thinner than the one I had on the 8703e, I am using the leather holster that came with the 8830

The vibration is not as strong as I'd like, coming from the LG enV, it was much more subdued if that's the appropriate word

I think it is very poor. If there were a way to increase it I would pay to do so. Vibrate is typically all that I leave it on, and now I'm a tad lost.

That said, there are very few other complaints that I have with the unit, but alas this is kinda big.

I hate the vibrate on my 8800. My 7290 would vibrate off the table if it was not in it's holster and I could feel it everytime the first time on my belt even driving down gravel roads.

My 8800 can go off sitting on my couch in the wrong position and I won't feel it. On the table in the holster I do not hear it vibrate more often than not.

This seems to be something they missed the mark on. For this to be the corporate tool they claim, this is a big deal to me. I never had to change my profiles for meetings before as I would always catch it on the first vibrate. This is no longer the case.

Step backwards in this department.

Pre-Seidio hybrid case it was fine, post case it's not discernible. Not much different than the 8703e. -Pk

You maybe right, there could be a fault with this I have the 8700c the last couple of weeks the vibration stopped. I was thinking of upgrading to the 8800 but this could be a problem. I need this feature for meetings.

Default vibrate is often indetectable

After 10 days use, I find that if I am walking outside or even just moving about the office, the vibrate transducer is too weak to be felt and the ring volume is too low to be heard (set at HIGH) if there is any appreciable ambient noise. In general, IMO the 8830 is a big step backward from the 7250. If being alerted is important to you, you may want to rethink the 8830. Some people have suggested that adding your own ringtones which have had their amplitude boosted priot to download may help for the ring volume but I don't know of any way to fix the feeble vibrate. I suppose it would need a different transducer. RIM needs to do a better job of field testing.

They simply need to increase the juice to the vibrate motor, or i suppose I could solder in a larger motor, but that would be a pain.

Or just a denser off-center mass, which would be the easiest. No motor upgrade needed.

Question is, what substance is the existing vibrating mass is used (usually an off-center piece of metal attached to a motor shaft). If it's just a block of steel, then replace with a block of lead.

Opportunity for an aftermarket store? Yes.

Depleted Uranium would probably be ideal but I doubt that's legal...

I agree with the above. I recently upgraded to an 8800 from a 7290 and sorely miss the strong vibration of the 7290. I have had my 8800 in front of me on my desk and if there's a lot of office chatter or people walking by, I won't hear the vibration at all. With my 7290, I could have kept it in my drawer and I would have felt/heard it above the office din. To me, the vibration in the 8800 is a big step backward. If they had adjustable levels of vibration, such as low/med/hi, that would be ideal.

As a result, I've had to resort to a ringtone for phone, which I really don't like at all.
