Hi guys,

Total newbie to the bberry scene. Got myself a 8100 on o2 uk. It took them 2 weeks after purchasing to get me connected (shocking!). I remained patient though and am loving using it.

Im not sure if this is normal or not but i just wanted to know how long it takes you guys to recieve an e-mail once sent. Not that mine is taking forever but it would arrive maybe 3-5 mins or so after sending is that about normal?

I can't complain but i just wanted to know incase there was a way of speeding it up.

I have email forwarded from my home email address to the blackberry, and I generally receive it instantly on the BB. Sometimes there is a delay of a few minutes.

I'm on Cingular. If the email is "pushed" the the BB, I believe it checks for new email every 15 minutes. So I go with the forwarded method, as I much prefer for it to arrive quickly at the BB. 3-5 minutes isn't bad, IMO.

Thanks for the reply. How would i go about setting my e-mails to be forwarded? Do i do this on my blackberry page or my e-mail hosts page. What i mean is i have my e-mail accounts with a company called 1and1 so should i log in there and forward them on.

I hope that makes sense lol

Yes, log in at your webmail site for 1and1, look for some kind of options like Settings or Rules, and have all e-mail forwarded to your BB.

While that is not MY personal opinion on the best way to receive your mail, it will certainly forward everything to your BB.

Otherwise, setup your BIS from your mobile carrier's website, or on your BB, you should have an icon SETUP INTERNET EMAIL.

I am on Tmobile on a corporate BES. My emails sometimes come faster to the Blackberry than on my Lotus Notes. Also my pushed gmails come almost instantly also.

On my 8100 (BIS)....instantly. On the 8700c (BES)....takes about 45 seconds after I receive the email in outlook.

From what I have read, BES is pretty instant. For BIS, it depends on email account. Blackberry, Yahoo, and Gmail are instant but for other POP. IMAP, or webmail accounts, it is on a 15 min loop.

Just wanted to let you guys know that by forwarding on my pop accounts to the blackberry account it has worked instantly. As you rightly say the blackberry account is instant.

I'm on BIS Cingular AOL accounts - takes up to 10 mins fr mine - so you say if I forward all my AOL accounts to the Cingular Blackberry account, it will be faster?

Hi,

I too am on O2 UK and the reason it takes them so long to connect you on a data plan is that for some reason, it has to start from your next billing date.

My emails can take anything from 2 mins to about 10, so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

Hi mike thanks for the extra info. I managed to forward my personal e-mail to my blackberry mailbox and they now arrive instantly! It's great!

Just log into your AOL and Yahoo accounts and forward them to your Blackberry email address.
When you log onto the BIS website of your airtime provider, you should have the option to create a Blackberry emai address. This is the email address for your device. Forward all your emails to that and then there is no need to "push" emals to it, they just arrive there.

ok thanks! Can I still use the AOL desktop app to view/edit emails?

If you want to be able to check/reply to them on a PC too, make sure you set them to "forward and keep a copy" or something similar. This will leave them on the server too.

Wait, you guys can do this for AOL?

I searched AOL and found this:

"Automatically Forward E-mail
The AOL® service does not currently provide the ability to automatically forward your e-mail. You must sign on to the AOL service and manually forward your e-mail. "

Wow...the other way around! I sometimes wish I couldn't get my emails at all on BES.
