currently have v4.2.2.169 and hope to upgrade to 4.5 to take advantage of the new mobile slingbox app.....

Will I have to reload all of my programs or can I back them up somehow? Can I save everything to my memory card then add back to the phone?

I assume all stored email cannot be added to the phone-only new messages right?

Sync it to the DM and do a backup or if you are daring and unafraid just shoot and holler S**t. Just keep in mind, anything can happen.

I always do a full back-up using Desktop Manager, then another with select databases (Calendar, Tasks, passwords, Contacts - you know, critical data). (And before I was on a BES, I would run a full sync, too).

Then I use the Switch Device trick to save all my 3rd party apps (at least the ones I don't have local install files for).

Then I run the upgrade.

More often than not, everything comes through unscathed - even old messages.

But for those times when the upgrade gods are unhappy, at least I've got my backups.
