Default Software on Blackberry 8700c

Please Login to Remove!

So I just recently was given a used Blackberry 8700c for free and I was wondering if there were any software updates for the phone that would improve the speed and features on the phone.

So far since this is my first blackberry a few things are kind of confusing me. And I was wondering if there was anyway I could maybe change the software skin?

I used to do modding on motorola phones so I'm hoping not too much is different with blackberries. The first thing I want to find out is if there is a safe way to maybe change the software on the phone to completely change the look of it.

Sorry if my question makes no sense haha.

Basically with a BB, what you see is what you get. One reason why businesses and governments use it is that it is fairly secure. I seriously doubt that you can do many mods on it either. To change look and feel, we have what is called "THEMES". I suggest you search for themes for the 8700 model as they are generally model specific, i.e. an 8703 theme won't work on an 8700, etc.

I also suggest that you provision the device with a BB dataplan if you haven't already done so and get to know the device before you attempt any changes or mods. A BB isn't loke an ordinary cell phone by any means. Also read our FAQ. Download and read an 8700 User Guide as well.

At the top of the 8700 section is a sticky with info on updating the OS. That is also model specific, i.e. 8700 OS for the 8700, 8703 OS for the 8703, etc. It is not carrier specific however as all OS' are essentially the same. You will need to follow the directions carefully to make sure the OS is properly configured and installed.

Welcome to the BB world!
