FYI, for those who don't have Sun's JDK installed (or some form of jar.exe), you won't be able to run the update.

then again, you wouldn't have been able to run the v4.0 JDE, either, if that were the case. (probably a blessing, all things considered...)

I have the both the J2SDK 1.4.2_07 w/ NetBeans 4.0 and also the J2SE 1.4.2_04 Runtime installed on my machine. I can run the JDE 4.0 no problem but this update doesn't work. I'm going to look into it further but it looks like either I don't have jar.exe or it's not pathed correctly.

EDIT: It wasn't pathed, my bad.

sure you can. i've never had issues not being able to run JDE in the past. just this particular update.

how can you make any practical use of the JDE without the JDK installed? the JDE doesn't include javac.exe, which is moderately useful when attempting to develop java applications...

jar.exe is typically installed on a system when the JDK is installed. (yes, i'm aware it can be acquired other ways.) the point of my sarcastic remark was that anyone attempting to do java software development without the JDK installed is perhaps better suited to a career as a vegetation relocation engineer.

there are practical uses for the JDE for non-developers, don't you think?

i personally install the JDE for javaloader and for screenshots from the simulator.

The new Voice Notes and Location APIs are currently only supported on the BlackBerry 7520.

:( Voice Notes would be cool on other devices as well .....
