OK- I have a Sprint Tour, and have read and am aware of all the problems with Google Maps and the inability to secure a GPS location.

Try this - Go to Options > Status > then type TEST. There will be a number of choices to test various parts of your Tour. I selected 'GPS'.

It remains IDLE! It appears that the GPS is even locked down to the Blackberry OS itself! No wonder Google Maps sees the GPS as unavailable!

Do you have "Location Services ON"?

AFAIK, GPS is not locked out on the 9600 series.

Also, if you do have the Tour, please update your profile as it says 8330.

Yes, Location Services are ON.

Did you try the GPS test I outlined above?

Same exact problem for me! I ran that test from the Options/Status item and I get no lock, no GPS info at all. The test times out waiting for the GPS!!!

Do I need a replacement Tour or is this correctable somehow???

Opposite for me...

I got to the GPS Test Screen and pressed the trackball> Start Fixing

I received: GPS fixing succeeds!
Provides Latitude, Longitude, Time to get fix...

Seems to be working great, but still no good for Google Maps.
(By the way, I received an e-mail from Google Support stating that THEY are fixing the issue... It's obviously not with the Tour)

I got Sprint Tech Support to re-provision and now the GPS Test works just fine. So does Sprint Nav, Where & other GPS apps.

As you say, Google Maps still does not work, I also suspect it is on their end and not anything wrong with the Sprint Tour... which is WONDERFUL in everything else!!!

There is a known issue (posted on many, many sites/blogs) with Google Maps 3.0.2 on Sprint.

Not sure why only Sprint Tours and not VZ Tours are having this issue, but that appears to be the current status... odd.

Thanks everyone! This has been helpful. I do see that on Google Maps forum that many people are discussing and waiting for a fix from Google.
