Default Basic T-Mobile plan on BlackBerry

Please Login to Remove!

X-mas time is near, and my parents want to reward me for getting straight A's for this past semester of college. Since I've been with T-Mobile for almost two years, my contract will get me a new phone at discount price.

I'm thinking about getting the BlackBerry Pearl 8220 flip phone, but I'm not sure if the plan I'm on will make it worthwhile. My family and I are on the 'myFaves for Families 1000 Plus' plan with unlimited domestic messages. It's basically 1000 minutes and unlimited text messaging for us combined.

Since we don't have the cool extra stuff like Internet and E-mail covered, should I still bother getting a smartphone? I know the browser can be configured to use wi-fi from a personal router, but what about the other applications that need Internet?

Wirelessly posted (T-Mobile 8120)

Besides internet functionalities, blackberries also make for good personal organizers/mp3 players!

You can simply add the $19.95 per month Personal (BIS) plan just to your account that will provide only you with full internet access and Blackberry's famous push email. For voice calls & text msgs, you remain on your parent's family plan.

bikedogrun said it best!

I would do that if I were you. Just give your parents $20 a month and use your BB to run your world!

I think the $40 is if you only had the BIS BB plan without any voice plan.

You need the BIS BB "add-on" plan for $20. It is the add-on that they will add to your existing family plan. It is definitely $20 ($19.95) and unlimited data. I just double checked my T-Mobile account.
